Situated in Lakeview's iconic Southport Corridor, Itoko is a neighborhood Japanese and robata restaurant from Gene Kato, Executive Chef of Momotaro. “Itoko” means cousin in Japanese, and refers to the connection with Momotaro, located in the Fulton Market District. The menu features the high level of ingredients and technique that Chicago has come to expect from Chef Kato, alongside a beautiful interior curated for the Southport neighborhood. The menu itself features uniquely interpreted sushi rolls that allow the high-quality fish to be the star of the sushi experience. In addition, an innovative beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs highlights the relationship between the technique of the food created by the kitchen and how this is complimented by the beverage selection. This is supplemented by a compelling sake program (designed to demystify the tradition of the Japanese spirit).

Food was very good, per usual. Service felt a little too rushed (bringing the check pretty soon after the entrees,when no one had requested) and could be more attentive (no on offered to refill coffees). Definitely left the impression that they wanted to turn the table before we hit 60 mins

We had a wonderful meal. We had h0t items (rice, salmon and sliders). King salmon hand roll was great.

Enjoyed a meal on the patio on a beautiful summer night. The special "Summer Roll" was fantastic: fried shrimp topped with scallop and lemon. The Momomaki is a classic. The Donatsu, a fluffy donut with matcha semifreddo is an incredible twist on dessert. Always a great, albeit pricey, meal.

I can’t believe last night was our first time here! We ate inside and the space is fresh, inviting and just beautiful. We started with the edamame, spicy tuna roll and spicy cucumber salad since we arrived at the end of happy hour and they’re all on special. The spicy tuna roll was well prepared and a great choice to wake up our palates! For dinner we ordered the skirt steak robata and the slider robata. Wow. Both impressed us for sure! The char and flavor of the skirt steak (even before dipping) was authentic and just cooked perfectly. Don’t miss the slider robata…the miso mustard is an exceptional complement to the beef…you might actually say, “wow!” after your first bite!!! We also had two full portions of the King Crab Temaki Hand Roll, which I highly recommend, as each portion is about three bites. Three bites of crustacean bliss! I also had the Hamachi (Yellowtail Tuna) Sashimi and the Unagi (bbq eel)…yum!!! And next time will try the Akami (bluefin tuna loin). Our server Becca was outstanding; super friendly and did a great job in helping us navigate the menu and make our selections. They have a great cocktail list; we ordered a Cosmo and it was perfection. Thanks for having us…we’ll be back soon!

We went with our family of five for dinner and every menu item that we had was fantastic. We had the cucumbers, gyoza, edamame, 4 rolls, a hand roll, the ramen, a few of the robata-slider and salmon. Everything was flavorful and fresh. The ambiance had a cool vibe as well and the restaurant was busy, but it doesn’t have that many tables so it didn’t seem crazy busy. It isn’t an inexpensive meal after you order all that you want, but it is well worth it.

The food was amazing! Everything was so delicious & perfectly cooked, no leftovers were left behind. The service was spectacular, we got some great suggestions & the plates came out rolling pretty quickly.
