A tale of two cities

Inspired by New York, 100 per cent Brum. Isaac's menu features American comfort food such as hot dogs, mac & cheese and cheesecake alongside brasserie classics including beef carpaccio, seafood platter and 30-day aged steaks. Dial things up for a blow-out occasion or dress down for casual dining: the choice is yours.

Our Chef, Adam Bateman has been knocking up New York sensations with us since we opened, and is proud to be a Brummy lad bringing the Big Apple buzz to our streets! Just across from Birmingham's famous Pigeon Park and a 10 minute walk to the gorgeous canals, we are the perfect place to grab a bite to eat when in Brum!

The food was good without being outstanding - I asked for my steak blue, it came more medium rare but it was tasty - and the 2 glasses of wine wine I drank (Negroamaro) were a very decent Puglian red. It’s rather difficult to judge the ambience as the restaurant was extremely quiet but the staff were excellent throughout: attentive without being over-attentive, efficient and friendly.

The only thing that spoilt the evening was out greeting when we arrived. We stood around for 10 minutes only to be told our table wasn't ready even though the restaurant was half empty. When we got the managers attention he somehow found a table of which we could see was ready from our standing around and we were seated. And then our order was taken and we then enjoyed the rest off the night. But not withstanding that the meal was delicious and I would go back.

We arrived for a 5:30pm booking, just as the kitchen was opening, so the restaurant was very quiet. Service was of an impeccable standard from the moment we were seated until we left and the food was exceptional. Myself and my associate both chose the surf and turf option of a choice of steak and 1/2 lobster. Both of us were highly impressed by the depth of flavour we experienced from our meals

I booked a table for the £20 steak night. Upon being seated I was advised that the steak night included steak fried and a dink. This is was as states upon booking. However as I began to order, I was advised the only steak offered is a flat steak, and this cannot be substituted for any other steak. The steak could only be cooked well done or rare. Never have I ever been to a steak restaurant that restricts how the steak can be cooked or what steak is offered. The sauce offered was a butter sauce, again this could not be substituted for any other sauce and again never have I been to a steak restaurant that offers only one sauce. The drink offered was a glass of wine or a soft drink. The menue was very restricted and this is not advertised when booking, had it been I would not have booked the restaurant. At the time of my booking there were only 3 other tables taken, I thought that was strange given the offer available however I quickly realised the reason why. The service was below average, given the restaurant was pretty empty, it took me ages to track down a waitress for the bill as they kept wondering off away from the restaurant. I do not recommend a booking for the steak night.

It wasn't terrible. Most of the meals were good, but the burger was dry and inedible. They didn't even apologize. Some staff could use a bit of training on customer service, like smiling. Service was extremely slow; a three-course meal took ninety minutes, even though there were only four or five tables occupied.

Husbands mac and cheese was delicious so were my rock oysters but my lobster was just warm. Should have said something at £35 for half a lobster.

Service was outstanding - extremely friendly staff and very efficient made it a hugely enjoyable experience. The food was nicely done not exotic but well cooked & and beautifully presented. Pricing is reasonable and I would definitely go back there. Liked the decor too!

The decor and overall feel of the restaurant was great - the staff were friendly but very very slow - not very attentive - drinks took a long time we had to ask to order more which took 20 mins and had food without drinks - they also put the fresh drinks down eventually without removing the empty glasses The steak for the price was like the soul from a old boot
