This has to be one of Birmingham's best kept secrets. It is a place you'd never find 'by accident'. It is hidden away inside a pub (The Wellington) and you'd never spot it. It is, however, very much worth it to search for it and have a meal. The whole ethos is about 'proper' Indian cuisine rather than 'English curries' - and it lives up to that excellently. There's not a Bhuna or Tikka Massala to be found! We were advised by the, excellent, maitre d' to have 3 or 4 starters as a sort of Tapas. Our selection, guided by him, was Gobi Manchurioan, Red Mullet, Dahi Puri and Chicken 65. They were all outstandingly tasty; if pushed to choose a favourite I'd lean to the Puri, yet everything was just top notch. We the shared a main (Lamb Rajastani and South Indian Pulao Rice) and a sweet (dumplings in cardomom/rose and jasmin). It was all as good as the starters. The staff are very attentive without being oppressive, the ambience is surprisingly good (given the location) and it was also fun to have jazz to entertain the ears rather than sitar and Bollywood music! If you are in Birmingham search this place out - it is worth it.

A fantastic experience as always. Some of the best Asian and Indian food I’ve ever tasted, coupled with excellent friendly service in relaxed surroundings. Would highly recommend this hidden gem of the Birmingham restaurant scene. Get booked in before everyone else finds out! … and bring back the motorcycles!

A great find. Refined dishes with plenty of flavour, nicely spiced. Loved it.

Food was absolutely delicious! Just the right amount of choice on the menu. Plenty of veggie options. Serving staff could not have been more polite or helpful.l throughout our meal and we did not feel hurried at any time. Small plates all particularly good - just right for sharing and having lots of tastes of different dishes. Altogether a lovely experience and we will definitely be back

I’d heard only good things about Indian Café Racer and it certainly lived up to the hype. The restaurant is beautifully laid out with interesting wall arts and information on racer cafés. We were welcomed and given time to settle before the menu was explained to us. Everything sounded delicious and it was difficult to choose. The food was even better than it had sounded, with distinctive flavours that all worked well together. We all loved it and even though we had booked a very early table we were allowed to stay as late as we wanted. All of the staff were friendly and went out of their way to look after everyone, especially the manager who was very helpful and attentive. The only slight downside was that the music was a bit too loud later in the evening.

Lovely reception and greeting when we arrived . Menu was well explained and service throughout was attentive without being intrusive. Food was delicious , we loved the pace at which it was served, being able to focus on each small plate before the next one arrived, and then the lavish banquet of main dished and sides. The high light was probably the lamb chops, which were devoured before I could even photo graph!

Really tasty food, excellent service and advice and support from the staff regarding the food and its history. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Despite my husband being unwell (unrelated to the restaurant) we all enjoyed the excellent food.
