Il Gabbiano is an Italian Steakhouse brought to the historical waterfront district and neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut by Chef Valentino Stakaj owner of the city's iconic Adriana's on Grand Avenue and La Lupa in North Haven, Valentino has rebuilt the famous restaurant location at 501 Long Wharf Drive which overlooks the Long Island Sound. Monday to Sunday happy hour from 2-6pm drink and appetizer specials every day.

    Beautiful setting, attentive servers, prices are nuts! $50 for lamb chops is extreme! I had the lemon chicken asked for double veg, no potato. Did not receive double veg, wrong dessert brought. Delicious martini and beautiful restaurant

    This was some of the worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. Our server was so incredibly rude.

    Disappointing dining experience. The noise level in the restaurant was off the charts. Could not have a conversation without yelling across the table. Our server was great, but felt the food order was very rushed and then waited much too long for the bill and for her to pick up the payment. By that time we just wanted to get out of the restaurant. Food was mediocre. I have had the John Dory sea bass several times and it was good, but this time the fish was mush and the dish had very little flavor. If it weren't for the location I wouldn't waste the money.

    Our waitress was wonderful. The cocktails were great! Steaks and swordfish dishes we really enjoyed as well. Cooked just as requested. We’ll be back!

    We're long-time fans of Valentino in all of his locations. Great food! But, the service was slow on a busy Saturday night.

    The food was excellent. Tasty and prepared as we ordered. But the service was not good. We arrived and when we were seated, we weren’t given menus. The waiter came to take a drink order, but he had to get a wine list from another table. We ordered a bottle of wine, but he didn’t take any other drink orders (we had 4 adults and 4 teenagers so the kids wanted sodas). He came back with only 3 menus for 8 people to share. Since he didn’t give us other drinks, the kids drank their water quickly and it took a long time to get refills. We asked for a carafe of water for the table. He said he would bring a pitcher but he only refilled the glasses and the kids had to keep waiting to get refills. The apps were delicious… fried calamari and shrimp, buratta with prosciutto and melon. But after the appetizers, we had to wait 45 minutes for our dinners because the kitchen was backed up. Our entrees were hot and tasty and everyone had leftovers to bring home, but the overall experience was disappointing.

    Generally don’t leave reviews. Wanted to try this place but was extremely disappointed. Almost everything we ordered wasn’t good. Only thing that was good was the meatballs as an appetizer. Also had the stuffed calamari, which we both had one bite of, and moved on. Entrees were the salmon and the lobster and linguine. The sauce on the salmon overpowered everything and was brought home for my dog. The linguini and lobster was bland. Basically a lobster cut in half, left in shell with linguine dumped on top of it. I was expecting that the lobster would’ve been picked and placed on top of the pasta, which it wasn’t. Dessert we had canollis and carrot cake. Carrot cake was good but the canollis were filled with something unusual, wasnt the traditional filling. My significant other is very easy to please and she barely ate anything. Would not return
