Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

    First time dining here and it was an amazing experience. Our server Katelyn went through the menu with us and made some great recommendations. Everything came out perfectly timed and hot. Drinks were delicious and vibes were on point. The stand outs for me were Tagliatalle, Rosso, Carciofo. Dessert was also great especially with a cappuccino.

    It was a great experience. The food was delicious, and the vibes felt special. Ryan was amazing, and all his recommendations were more than great.

    We had high expectations and were so excited to try this place, and it just didn’t live up to the hype. The food was fine, but nothing special and seemed incredibly overpriced.

    Comprehensively a fabulous dinner. Food, service (Jaclyn, you are phenomenal), ambiance/environment…all highly impressive. Chef Flamm graced us with his conversation and personality table side and that was certainly special. Will return soon, can’t wait for another opportunity to dine like a royal Roman.

    Dinner was spectacular. Antipasti dish (calamari) seemed small for an appetizer considering the price, so price and value didn’t match. Steak was excellent which uses and old Roman recipe and was incredible. Tagliatelle was great tasting- could have been better mixed when arrived. Pizza was excellent

    The food was subpar. Pasta was gummy, fish was overcooked and the artichoke appetizer was nothing special. Not sure if we went on an off night for the kitchen or if the food is just lackluster. Rosemary, the owner’s other restaurant, is 10x better.

    We dined at Il Carciofo for first time 2 nights ago. We were five people, celebrating a couple birthdays. Overall, it was excellent. For antipasti, we had the artichoke, lamb ribs and calamari. All were excellent. Lamb ribs were a little fatty for my taste, but lamb is fattier, and everyone else at the table loved them. Terrific flavor with the glaze, so tender. Artichoke was also a fave. Next we had the mortadella pizza (really more like a panini) - so, so good - one of the best things we had. For pasta we had the rigatoni carbonara, rich and delicious, the oxtail tagliatelle, my personal fave, and the mezza rigatoni alla amatriciana, spicy and very good. For the forgo, we had the halibut with clams and mussels - was good, but not special, and a tad overcooked. We also had the veal saltimbocca, which was very good and enjoyed. We had the potatoes and fungji e formaggi as contort (sides). Potatoes were great; the funghi were special, really loved them. Finally for dessert we ordered pistachio gelato - did not enjoy; it was not creamy, a bit more grainy (coursely grpund pistachio?). They also brought us the Zeppole di san Giuseppe for the birthday dessert, and it was delicious. Our server was really great, attentive but not overbearing. She explained all the dishes and did a nice job on a very busy Friday. The restaurant is lively and kind of loud, but not so much that you can’t hear others at your table. Wine list is good, some nice, creative cocktails. Overall, a great experience that I highly recommend, and I congratulate Joe Flamm and his team on another great restaurant.
