Based on the ‘Lu school’ cuisine of Shandong Province, and with use of Sichuan fiery spices and peppers, Hutong at The Shard’s event menus artfully capture the subtlety and surprises of Northern Chinese cooking. Service was very slow in all areas. We had to wait in a long queue to be seated. We didn’t leave our coats at reception as the guests before us coats were just being left on the counter until someone was available to take them away! We were seated 10mins after our booking time. Then we had to wait to be served for drinks once seated. Giving we only ordered free flowing Prosecco and a beer NOT cocktails this also took time to arrive and we had to ask where there were? But this wasn’t the main issue?! It was after 1hr 15mins we were then informed by the manager we had 10mins left of our free flowing drinks!! So we told her we had been seated late and served late and this isn’t ok as it’s your fault and we have longer! To which she was ok with. We had to constantly keep asking for drinks as the server wasn’t on top of serving us giving we paid an extra premium for this on top of the food so the bar staff should be on top of this! It was like they were being slow on purpose so they didn’t serve as much drink?! My husbands beer was served in warm half pint glasses. When we went to Aqua they served his beer in an ice cold pint glass each time, and left the Prosecco bottle in a cooler by our table! One of our starters was missing and we had to ask for it. We then ordered a couple more starters from the eat as much as you like brunch menu, they brought them out after the mains arrived! Which defeats the point?! Half of the mains were cold. What should have been scrambled egg and scallops, it was an omelette and two scallop!! Two different styles of making eggs that is so basic for a top chef to make! Which is why when it came to pay the bill which was over £300 for 2 adults and 2 children and 1 hardly ate much we only paid half the service charge! How is service charge 15% now!!! Service charge should be abolished! To be honest they were lucky to get the £20 service charge! But no way were we paying them £40 for such disorganised service! We won’t be going back again!

So I booked this restaurant for valentine's eve. Set menu in the shard. Amazing views over London. Food was sub-standard with cold chopped ribs as a starter. The dumplings were good but you only got 4 to share. The whole meal consisted of a starter, a main and a desert each and all for the set price of £201 each.... apparently it included a complimentary glass of champagne that didn't come....the whole meal came to £500....would've got better food from my local takeaway for £40.....will never eat there again

First visit to Hutong but certainly won’t be my last. Saturday brunch menu was superb and “freeflow” starters a real highlight. Excellent service in the bar beforehand and throughout the meal. In and out in just under 2 hours but never felt rushed.

Waited 45 minutes for our pre booked table and then told we would have to hurry as the kitchen was closing, ended up with starters and mains on the table together as again we were told the kitchen was closing, food was cold and average at best . Really disappointing.

Brought my husband here for our anniversary. There was no acknowledgment. Starting off. The gentleman at the front was absolutely great. Going to our table. Our server was fine but where we got irritated is as we were finishing up the literal last bite of dessert, please check camera, a man approached us stating that "he now needs the table and will be bringing us the bill so we can vacate", and then walked away. It was exactly 10:17pm and we can in right at 8:30 for what we assumed would be a 2 hour seating. We couldn't even finish our dessert after a £200+ dinner. This man who brought our bill was in quite the rush for us to leave. Will not be returning. Very unfortunate considering the food was great

Too dark ,uncomfortable chairs,do not make a late a reservation ,kitchen closes, you are brought the bill without asking for it and asked to pay on the spot. Never again . Manners = zero
