Overall our dinner was good, though the squid ink pasta dish was under-seasoned and bland. We enjoyed the focaccia and shrimp/dumpling dish and the tuna tartare was spectacular. Friendly staff. Tables a little tight. Would not mind returning but not sure it’s a destination restaurant.

Best sea bass I’ve ever had. Great meal. Everything from focaccia bread to dessert was excellent.

So, last week we decided to try Horno despite the mixed reviews. Arrived with a reservation, was seated about 15 minutes late. My husband ordered a gin and tonic, only to be told by our server that the restaurant doesn’t carry tonic, and that it has something to do with their liquor license???!!!! So, he ordered a drink from the menu. I ordered a glass of cava and iced tea with sweetener. We received his cocktail and my tea fairly quickly. It took an additional 30 minutes to get sweetener and longer still to get my cava (despite multiple requests). This is the point where a skilled server would have let her manager know that things were going sideways. We ordered the bread with the goat cheese (upcharge). Received the bread, no cheese (I asked about it at one point but got a shrug - I didn’t check to see if we were charged for it). Our entrees arrived about 45 minutes after we ordered them. I ordered 2 small plates (salad and the meatball), he ordered the hanger steak. The salad was good, the meatball was good, but no better than what you can get at Bravo or other italian chains. He said the steak had good flavor but was extremely tough. Since he wasn’t provided a steak knife (one was requested), it caused a bit of a struggle. We weren’t served anything that we couldn’t have received equal quality for less cost at any mid-priced chain restaurant. Our server didn’t stop by to check on us during the meal. In fact, some of my plates were cleared before she stopped by - and she asked if I’d received my food (I get using runners, but she should have known!). We requested coffee and a desert menu. The coffee arrived, but it was another 20 minutes before our server returned to ask if we wanted desert - at that point, we just wanted out. There are so many great restaurants in Santa Fe, it’s hard to justify spending $200+ on a meal that caused a great deal more stress than pleasure.

Food was excellent. Pork chop was one of the best I have ever had. Acoustics are odd. Could make out the conversation of a table that was 3 tables away. Service seemed to suffer from lack of coordination between staff.

The chef was very accommodating to those with food allergies. The food was delicious and ample.

I want to love Horno more than I do. I’ve eaten here three times and am always a bit surprised by how limited the menu is. I try to find inspiration to guide my ordering, but the menu leaves me flat. Service is always fine, but not remarkable or elevating. And the room has very little style/flair. Horno feels like it should be a total winner, but each time I’ve eaten here, I’ve I left feeling frustrated that it isn’t.
