HopCat returned to Royal Oak in 2023 at the corner of Main and 4th Street. The expansive space features multiple sidewalk patios and a massive wrap-around bar. We’re just down the street from the Royal Oak Theatre, Oakland Community College, Stagecrafters Baldwin Theatre, and the Royal Oak train station.

HopCat was founded on the principles of bringing local craft beer a bit closer to the communities we love. We’re known for our award-wining Cosmik fries, which are beer battered, sprinkled with our signature cracked black pepper seasoning, and served with a side of warm cheese sauce. From burgers to tacos, our menu offers a range of delicious options.

We live the craft lifestyle - beer, cocktails and even craft food made from scratch. With a dedication to local breweries, sustainability and community engagement, HopCat offers craft beer and great food in a vibrant atmosphere for an inclusive, unforgettable experience.

The food was good and reasonably priced. The service was a little slow, but I think that’s part of the restaurant’s design to have people drink more alcohol.

Service was extremely poor. After ordering our drinks it took about 15-20 min to receive premade beverages (coffee, water and one beer). We waited patiently for another 20 minutes to place our order but our server never came. We had to stop another server to grab our server to order. We ordered and it took another 45 min for brunch items. My friends eggs were cold. No one asked if we needed condiments (which we did) for the meals so we had to stop yet another server. Our server never checked in and asked how our food was. And then we had to ask another server to bring our check. Really disappointing experience overall.

Everyone treated me and my daughter like family and it was very beautiful very hitting everybody in the restaurant coincided with each other. There was no riffraff. It was completely beautiful. I’m so glad I went.

Solid. The burgers are excellent and on a whim we have the impossible burger a try: very good-no notable difference! Had cider from Tandem Cidery… very good

The hostess was very welcoming and friendly so the evening started off well. Our service was pretty good up until the end when our server just seemed to "check out" and stopped with the pleasantries she had during the meal...saw us putting our coats on preparing to leave and just kept passing by us without any type of eye contact or farewell. We thought that odd considering that she hadn't seen her tip yet...my husband is a great tipper, so all was good there. Not sure why she suddenly seemed dry. The food.....well, I had the greasiest, and most overcooked fish and chips I've ever ordered from a restaurant. It was sad they allowed it out of the kitchen and expected anyone to appreciate paying for it, but we had no time for a do over as we had a movie to see. Very disappointing in the food category. But overall, not a terrible visit. May try it again.

What a great evening at Hop Cat. Our waitress, Kim, was one of the best we have ever had, anywhere, and she helped make our night so enjoyable.
