HopCat returned to Royal Oak in 2023 at the corner of Main and 4th Street. The expansive space features multiple sidewalk patios and a massive wrap-around bar. We’re just down the street from the Royal Oak Theatre, Oakland Community College, Stagecrafters Baldwin Theatre, and the Royal Oak train station.

HopCat was founded on the principles of bringing local craft beer a bit closer to the communities we love. We’re known for our award-wining Cosmik fries, which are beer battered, sprinkled with our signature cracked black pepper seasoning, and served with a side of warm cheese sauce. From burgers to tacos, our menu offers a range of delicious options.

We live the craft lifestyle - beer, cocktails and even craft food made from scratch. With a dedication to local breweries, sustainability and community engagement, HopCat offers craft beer and great food in a vibrant atmosphere for an inclusive, unforgettable experience.

Our service was good, however, the new menu is disappointing, they removed items our family liked, Southwest salad, BLT. Also, miss the round pretzel nugs.

Vinny was a great server and we enjoyed our meal before heading downtown. Vinny also saved the day by chasing us down to give us our forgotten car key fob before we got out of sight, thanks again!

This was our first time for Bruch at HopCat. The food was great and the service top notch. We went at 10 am because we had a busy day. It wasn’t crowded so the wait staff was there for us often. Highly recommend

Cocktails were ok, but not very fresh. We ordered drinks and a shared appetizer platter. The platter was missing a couple items that were listed on the menu, which was brought to our waiters attention but never received. Not a horrible experience, but room for improvement.

The food was good and reasonably priced. The service was a little slow, but I think that’s part of the restaurant’s design to have people drink more alcohol.

Service was extremely poor. After ordering our drinks it took about 15-20 min to receive premade beverages (coffee, water and one beer). We waited patiently for another 20 minutes to place our order but our server never came. We had to stop another server to grab our server to order. We ordered and it took another 45 min for brunch items. My friends eggs were cold. No one asked if we needed condiments (which we did) for the meals so we had to stop yet another server. Our server never checked in and asked how our food was. And then we had to ask another server to bring our check. Really disappointing experience overall.
