Hochi Mama was the God Mother of all aspiring street artists and rappers in the early nineties. An immigrant in the big city, she hosted underground art shows along with rap battles for the rejects; a place where you could just be at home, but with family. The whole crew was always welcome, the more the merrier, and she was well renowned for creating innovative dishes using the original famous dishes from her home country, and plenty of booze, in her spacious and homey warehouse.

This cheeky, vibrant and buzzing Vietnamese Fusion venue is one for your to-do list. Boasting a killer menu and a super cool vibe, this place is known for a cocktail, feast or an intimate date night.

My wife and I were excited to try Hochi Mama after hearing lots of positive things from friends. I booked us a table for 8:00pm which was a 1.5 hour booking until 9:30pm. The food was amazing and so were the cocktails. However, at 8:50pm, the waitress brought us the bill and told us that someone else needed our table and that our booking was about to end. We were looking at getting a couple more cocktails and a desert so we weren’t ready to leave especially as our booking was until 9:30pm. I showed the waitress the confirmation booking email which showed the 1.5 hour sitting and she said “yeah sorry, was that cash or card”. At this point, we didn’t even want to stay. We paid for our food and went to another place to continue our night. The food was amazing and the place was a vibe, just very disappointed with the service especially when we left the restaurant and nobody was waiting for a table.

The meal was beautiful and service was great. We were seated outside as it was the only table we could get, I probably wouldn't chose this option next time. But the value for money was excellent and the food was delicious!

Terrible service food came out before drinks. Disinterested staff. Needs to improve !!!

We had the prawn bites, prawn dumplings and barramundi salad between 2. Delicious!!! And the Leslie Chow cocktail….oh my….could have drunk a few more of them!!!! Can highly recommend.

We needed to be served and out the door in time for "Beauty and the Beast". Not a problem. The service was spot on. Staff were efficient and friendly. Words just aren't adequate enough to describe how good the food was. The three of us had fried dumplings, chicken & cashews, vegetable spring rolls, jasmine rice with tofu. Each of us had an alcoholic drink. Our meal was absolutely fabulous, beautiful and tasty. I thoroughly recommend Hochi Mama, will go back again. 5 stars!

We have been regulars at Hochi Mama over the years and have introduced many groups of people to this restaurant. I am sad to say that this visit, the service was very disappointing. We were asked for our order immediately, but needed a few minutes to look at the menu. However, it took another 15 minutes to get someone's attention for us to place our order. With a table full of food we were then surprised at the announcement that we had 20 minutes to eat and leave our table. Upon seeing our shocked faces, our waitress reassured us that this was "plenty of time". We stopped talking and ate quickly. With 10 minutes to go, she returned, leaned over us, removed the bowl full of food and cutlery under my friends arms and then asked: "are you done with these?" The food was delicious so it was unfortunate we had such a bad dining experience. Sadly, my friend and I are both reluctant to return.

We had an incredible experience and all 4 of us felt it was the best Thai we’d ever had. Delicious, attentive and friendly staff. 10/10 experience!
