Higher Ground is a bistro and bar located in Manchester city centre that focuses on seasonality within the UK using produce sourced from local suppliers and producers.

The restaurant is open Wed-Sat at dinner and Fri-Sat lunch. On Wed/Thurs, reservations can almost always be welcomed at 5:30pm, ensuring that you can arrive at the theatre, show or stadium in good time. If you're unable to find a 5:30pm reservation available, please email hello@highergroundmcr.co.uk

At lunch a £38pp seasonal sharing menu is offered alongside an à la carte menu. At dinner, both an à la carte and a seasonal sharing menu at £58pp are available. Both menus are available when sat at the kitchen bar counter.

We often hold space for walk-ins at the kitchen bar counter so pop by and have some plates and a glass of wine! Both menu options are available at the kitchen bar counter.

Reservations of up to twelve guests are accepted. For parties of 7x guests and over, the seasonal sharing menu is served.

Excellent food, lots of local and seasonal ingredients. Fantastic wine list, and large selection of 750ml beers too.

Our third visit here, and we'll definitely be back. Food is so fresh and all staff/front of house are incredibly friendly and passionate about what they're offering. If you want ingredients which taste like they've been picked/made on the day, then come here. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Great atmosphere and really interesting food. We went for the tasting menu and had a range of seasonal food including cold meats, soup, pasta, pork, cheese and desert. The plates come out as and when they are ready. We both really enjoyed the experience and the staff were very attentive and friendly. But, seemed a little bit pricey for what we had and addition of service charge is a bit cheeky. All in all a great evening.

We sat at the counter and loved being able to watch the amazing work that produced our stunning food. Dishes from the sharing menu were generous and beautifully presented. Staff were knowledgeable about the produce and proud to explain the origins of the ingredients they were working with.

We had 'Counter' seats which were excellent as we could watch all the staff busy creating the dishes and the waiting staff were always passing by and attending to our needs and answering questions (or just chatting with us which was lovely! ) The food was delicious. We were very tempted by the tasting menu but wanted steak which was on the special. The steak was deemed best ever by my dining companion. We also had the crushed new potatoes (best ever as deemed by me!....I could have eaten 5 portions!), cheddar tart, heritage tomatoes, scallop/chowder and oysters were our other choices and all excellent. The cane sugar tart for dessert was divine but Im glad we shared as it was so sweet. Luckily the cheese plate tempered it down, although the one miss was the 'carrot chutney' which wasnt to my liking and not very chutney like either. Overall, we loved the meal and the restaurant which had been highly recommended to us, did not disappoint. ill be back to try the taster menu!

retensious portions Disappointing experience. £200 bill for: - 2 small oysters - 5 small tomatoes on a place - 1 portion of scallop with pieces of potatoes and cheap crab on a small shell (2 mouthfuls) . Btw we dont know if there was any scallop in it as everything was diced in tiny pieces - 600gr of sirloin steak on a massive bone. So actual meat was prob about 350gr - £7 for a small place of boiled potatoes - £7 for a small plate of lettuce -4 glasses of wine Total bill £200 Really disappointed as we had high hopes for this place. Side plates need to double is size to justify for the cost, compared to what other top range restaurants follow in the area. Prices too high for the overall service 2/5 with a push
