    The Herons culinary team masterfully redefines American cooking by infusing classic concepts translated with local, seasonal ingredients and precise technique. Chef Steven Greene's Art Tour Tasting Menu showcases The Umstead's culinary farm and draws inspiration from the art and nature theme of the property. The Art Tour features 8-15 courses and cannot be adjusted to accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies in order for guests to experience the culinary vision in its entirety. Wine pairings are offered tableside for an additional price. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. Kindly note, this is a prepaid, non-refundable experience.     We had a lovely lunch. The restaurant and hotel are beautiful. Our meal was perfect and the service was excellent.

    We got the art tour tasting menu. Some of the dishes were good while others were bland with little to no flavor. The savory courses in particular were an extreme disappointment. I was able to add the wagyu course at an additional price which was much better than the ones included in the tasting courses. The desserts were also really bad. The cherry macaron was stale and the cherry almond jelly dessert also had little to no flavor. Also the included art seemed like a gimmick. They just put some 8x8 pictures taking table space while loosly explaining whatever the chef saw to tie the dishes together. Cool in theory, but executed poorly or like it needed to be revitalized. The wine and service were exceptional Overall we spent $1100 for bland food and a gimmick. Will not be going back

    Beautiful location nestled in the woods. We were there for brunch. Elegant dining with fantastic food. Service was great as was the food. We will definitely be going back.

    Great experience coming from someone that has eaten at a lot of Michelin restaurants. Herons is definitely up there with food and presentation. Their service could use a bit of work. Some of the waiters definitely knew a lot more about the art tour dishes while others felt like they were reading from a cue card and weren’t as familiar with the different items on the dishes. Near the end of the dinner it got very rowdy and loud to the point it was difficult for me to hear my partner right next to me. Not exactly the restaurant fault but some louder guests who might have had too much to drink

    The total experience was excellent! The food was outstanding. Our server was amazing! My husband had the shrimp cocktail and the salmon for entree. I had butter lettuce salad and the Carolina chicken Both our meals were perfect. The desserts were also good He had the sundae and I had the chocolate dessert. We were celebrating our 48th anniversary, The chef sent out cookie and chocolate.

    Overall amazing experience. Did 4 course pre fix menu. The food presentation is beautiful. The food was delicious. 2nd time eating at Herons and the caliber of service and food is outstanding. Can’t wait to go back and try the fall menu!

    Herons restaurant is like no other in the area! Excellent food, delicious and appealing to the eye. Service is above and beyond. We have been going there for years and never had a disappointment of any kind! Atmosphere is elegant and calm where you won’t have to shout to talk or listen to your companions. If you go for lunch the added bonus is a walk around the pond where the gardens are beautifully landscaped! Highly recommend!
