At Hemmingway's Bistro the menu combines classic French dishes with the freshest Midwest ingredients.
The daily specials reflect the chef's love for fresh seafood. Using mostly East-coast seafood flown in from Boston daily, the chef creates dishes like wild mushroom-crusted halibut on horseradish whipped potatoes and roasted sea bass on Caussoulet beans.
There is also a Parisian seafood bar offering towers of Plateau de Fruit de Mer with fresh oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster.

Fresh Oysters, lyonnaise salad, cocktails, soup du jour and steak frites were very good. The halibut was a little overcooked. And the chocolate mousse serving was a big glob—presentation looked odd, tasted fine. room temp was too warm. Our Server was very nice!

So delicious! We will be regulars! The service was excellent and the fish was prepared beautifully. The chocolate mousse is amazing too.

First time experience could have been more perfect … drinks atmosphere service and the food. The ultimate place to be for dinner before an evening of live Havana Jazz performance in the neighborhood . Will look forward to attending Hemingway’s live jazz brunch and great reason to return to Oak Park

I love Hemingway bistro. Food was very good and our server was amazing. I ordered egg Benedict and my sister ordered smoked salmon. It’s a lovely place with nice decorations and atmosphere.

I understand it was a busy night because there was a performance across the street but after we were seated, we waited 25 minutes before our server came to our table. Earlier he was at the table next to us and didn’t even say “hey I’m swamped. I’ll be there as soon as I can”. In the meantime however, the bus person, did give us bread and water. We ordered a bottle of wine, and the temperature seemed as if it had been sitting on top of the stove. They definitely didn’t keep it in a wine cellar. We ordered the cassoulet and it was not the quality we were used to. It seemed to be a bean soup with meat thrown into it. This is not the same quality we experienced a few years ago. Lastly, they wanted to add 3% for using a credit card. Unfortunately, this will be our last time dining at this location.

This was our first visit to Hemmingway bistro. I have been searching for a traditional beef Wellington for many years and I’ve been to many places. The description on the menu stated that it was only available on Saturdays and Sundays that it was a pastry encrusted piece of fillet with mushroom duxelle and fois gras. We ordered smoked salmon for an appetizer and we each had a cocktail. My husband ordered the French onion soup and the New York strip steak. I ordered the beef Wellington. Appetizer was great as was the soup. My husband steak was wonderful. However, one might be Wellington Kane it was cut out of a whole tenderloin, so it was not encased in pastry crust. It was simply cut from a larger whole tenderloin that had been wrapped in the crust. The Fillet inside was probably the best piece of fillet I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered it medium rare, and it was done to perfection, however, there was no sign of the fois gras or a liver pate or anything, except a very large amount of the mushroom duxelle that to me, was extremely disappointing, and the whole reason I came there.. The green beans that were served with. It were extremely hard and almost unable to be cut with my fork or knife. The potatoes gratin was a very healthy portion very tasty, but extremely rich. When our waitress came back to ask how everything was, I told her exactly as I explained above and she said oh, there is the liver in there and I said no that’s not a flavor that you can disguise in any way, shape or form there was nothing in there besides the mushrooms, she comped us a dessert apologized and said she’d let the chef know. All in all, I’m glad we went, but I will not return to any restaurant that describe some thing charge you extra for it and then omit it
