At Hemmingway's Bistro the menu combines classic French dishes with the freshest Midwest ingredients.
The daily specials reflect the chef's love for fresh seafood. Using mostly East-coast seafood flown in from Boston daily, the chef creates dishes like wild mushroom-crusted halibut on horseradish whipped potatoes and roasted sea bass on Caussoulet beans.
There is also a Parisian seafood bar offering towers of Plateau de Fruit de Mer with fresh oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster.

Chicken breast was overcooked and tough. The restaurant is as tired as the building it is in.

The spot was really cute. The food was Ok, wine selection was good. The service was probably the highlight. I would sit at the bar and have a snack and a drink to listen to music.

Nice serene atmosphere, reminds me of restaurants in France. Service always good. Enjoyed a wonderful meal with crab cakes and chicken liver pate appetizers and lobster. Also love those violet martinis.

I took my husband and mother-in-law for the Sunday Champaign Brunch. It was pricey but good. Jazz piano and singer was a nice touch but we were seated right next to them so a bit loud for conversation.

We had dinner here as part of our anniversary weekend celebration. It’s an older very charming place and we were given the perfect table in the corner. Our server was very attentive while giving us plenty of space and gave us great drink recommendations (fabulous martini). My wife had the scallops and I went for the lamb chops both of which were excellent. They offered us dessert on the house and we chose the cream brûlé which was also outstanding. Loved this place!

Good wine selection and lots of good cheeses. Had appetizers and salads with friends, and it was a nice experience. Looking forward to another visit!

My wife and I came here for our anniversary. Staff was sweet and attentive. The food here has always been wonderful - and it still is! Best of all is the ambience. While there is always a cozy and classic Oak Park feel, you also feel like you traveled overseas and stumbled across a hidden gem of a restaurant.

Axel great server, perfect martini w blue cheese olives. Lobster salad very good as well as my wife's salmon nicoise salad. Would not order crab cake again, not jumbo lump or even lump, probably canned crab and very mushy.

This is a very old restaurant,dated, physically needs an overall renovation. The staff was wonderful. It appears as a very French influenced American menu. We both enjoyed two glasses of champagne, our entrées and a baked brie appetizer. It’s on the pricey side.
