Philosophie

An enriching culinary experience, we set out to create delicious dinners while following a strict ethos on sourcing. We hold close relationships with all of our farmers and ranchers, making a uniquely personal menu. Dishes change weekly based on what is available on the farm and in the larder. While everything is sourced in a tight radius, the flavors are inspired by our travels and memories.

    Another fantastic dinner at Hayward We came for the Summer Camp menu. Out of the 3 Nostalgia dinners we thought this was the best! The steak tartare with smoky mushrooms were insanely good. Maybe best steak tartare I’ve ever had. The pastas were both excellent, the Fish and chips so good it’s ruined me for other versions. And the S’mores dessert…WOW! Flavor and textures were perfect. And as always the cocktails the bartenders dreamed up to pair with were delicious! Try the Tie dye cocktail for dessert, the appearance was with it but it tasted great too 😀

    To start, Lauren was stellar! Great knowledge of and curation of an interesting wine list. Unlike others in the valley! We came during the Dinner at Grandma’s House experience. The dinner rolls with koji butter were perfectly dark-baked on the outside and soft on the inside. On the pickle plate, the maitake mushroom reminded us of a bowl of pho in one bite. We refrained from drinking from the bowl to get the last drops of broth with the pozole dumplings. The mussels and ling cod in the seafood bisque were as fresh as could be. Couldn’t recommend more a date night out at Hayward. 10 out of 10!

    This menu was insane! We loved it so much. Reading the menu you might not guess how the were going to represent breakfast but you take one bite and you’re instantly recognizing everything you love. This was a special themed menu for winter, so they don’t normally do breakfast. Knowing that made it even more impressive for the quality of it!

    What a great meal. From the very first dish, (just a sesame English muffin with koji butter, but astonishingly good,) to dessert, I was blown away. The Parisian gnocchi and the citrus salad were both out of this world. Chef’s Kari, Soren, Jon, and their kitchen team have outdone themselves with the very fun, limited-run Breakfast for Dinner Menu. Throw Dry January to the side for a night because the wine pairings were perfect. We drank our way through the glass pour options while we ate and the wines were delicious and fit seamlessly. Our server Lauren put the wine list together and clearly knows what she’s doing. I can’t wait for my next opportunity to eat at Hayward. Thank you to the whole team for creating such a great experience.

    Service was attentive with frequent check ins from multiple wait staff. It's a big open space (former warehouse or similar industrial building) which does make it a bit noisy and cold. I was disappointed in the food for the price ($150 for two people). I really enjoyed the sourdough waffles with fried miataki mushrooms. This dish was what I expected from the dinner for breakfast menu - a delicious twist on a classic dish. The oat porridge was close, but not quite there for me - the carrots were under cooked but I couldn't tell if it was a mistake or not as the dish would have benefited from a bit of crunch. The dish also needed a little bit of brightness to balance out the rich fattiness of the duck. The chicken fried steak was not good. The meat tasted boiled and lacked seasoning. The breading was too thick which made it kind of stodgy. The biscuit was overdone and dry. Overall, I would consider going back when they change their menu to see if the food is any better.

    We went for the 'Breakfast for Dinner' menu. Everything that we had was so creative and presented beautifully. We had a great time.

    The bartender was so great so we decided to sit at the bar for dinner. Her cocktails were tops and she was great to chat with. We did the “kick back” which let us taste several things from the menu. Everything was amazing!
