Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

For a top notch steakhouse the service was spotty and the food was, frankly, mediocre.

I have had my eye on Hawksmoor for some time after following their UK success and was excited to try out their first US restaurant. The care they put into informing you about the different cuts and how it differs from other establishments was great. The bone marrow and onion was fantastic as well as the sourdough and cultured butter. Their ribeye offering was exquisite and the temperature was a perfect medium rare.

I'd heard good things about Hawksmoor, and it didn't disappoint. Although the server got off to a rocky start with a rattled-off, rushed list of offerings, the food was stellar and arrived in a timely fashion. We tried raw oysters, which were pristinely shucked, scallops on the half shell, caesar salad, and sourdough bread before digging into the mains. A rib chop that was succulent and tender alongside a porterhouse, seared to perfection, was devoured alongside lobster mac 'n cheese, spinach, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Everything was delicious, and the elegant room makes a grand backdrop for feasting.

The potted beef and bacon (Yorkshire pudding) starter and sticky toffee pudding desert were the two best of each dish that we’ve had - anywhere. Both are must try in our opinion.

Glad to return to Hawksmoor on this trip to NYC. Easy train downtown and just few steps east. Such a lovely dining room. Tasty cocktails, good wines, excellent beef and delicious sides. Tried the new to us grilled scallops which were amazing. We’ll look forward to our next trip and meal at Hawksmoor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Hawksmoor. The service was quick, our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu/cuts of steak, and the ambiance was lovely! We will certainly return.

Meat was really good, as was beet salad and bread and four sauces we ordered. Spinach and potatoes were good/ok. Sadly, no sommelier available at lunch and they were sold out of many bottles so we ended up with a more expensive bottle than we had originally wanted. Overall service was ok ish, no recognition of our special occasion, although manager tried to remedy when pointed out as we were exiting. Not a high end experience overall, which when spending 600 is unfortunate. Maybe visit in London instead?

Unfortunately a disappointing experience at Hawksmoore as we had such lofty expectations. There was nothing particularly bad but the overall experience was underwhelming and certainly not one of the best steakhouses and certainly did not live up to the hype.
