Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

Sunday Roast

Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Overall experience was disappointing. We were a party of four. I familiarized myself with the menu before we went and saw the appetizer list quite short on what was appealing to us but we went nonetheless. Three filets were great but my ribeye was not! It had more fat than eatable beef. Sides were good… mashed potatoes were fine and double order of Mac cheese was actually quite good. We also had 3 sides of bacon. Some pieces were good others were excessively fatty. We paid for a double order of bread and that was probably the best and tastiest part of our meal. We shared 3 desserts. The pudding had a bread that tasted as if it had burned. I don’t know if that’s the intended taste but we found it unappetizing. The sundae was better and the chocolate bar the better of the choices. For the hype, prestige and price I expected a much better meal. We usually go to a steakhouse on Park in midtown and I regret going here. Next time you know where to find us!

Our table was in the corner behind the server station which was not ideal. The food was very good and service was great. The prices are a bit high however

This was some of the best service that I've experienced in a long time. However, this place is overrated when it comes to steak. It was fine. I think for the price that you pay, you can get more bang for your buck somewhere else. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious. I would bypass the scallops. They were tasty but not worth it. Bypass the carrots. They were cute, but not worth $13. The sides are small. The mash potatoes and mac & cheese were good.

Wonderful attentive charming service. Accommodated our late arrival and special request for Yorkshire without all the fixings. Had a nice corner banquette table. Very loud. Hard to hear person right next to me. Have had much better steaks many other places. Ceasar Salad very good and attractive. Toffee pudding very good.

First time dining at Hawksmoor in NYC. Loved the steaks and the sides. Great cocktails as well. When steaks arrived, they were not placed in the right order. Got one order wrong and therefore waited for the correct steak to arrive while the rest of us ate ours. The service was lacking. Water refill was not done. Waiter assigned did his stuff but there was no warmth nor interest in how we are doing and didn’t try to connect with us. The experience was a bit disappointing.

Great good , service & ambience. Was very noisy though. Very hip vibe . Would definitely dine there again. Want to try the Sunday Roast!!! Highly recommend!!!

Great experience. You ran out of lobsters, which is very bad but the steak I got was very good. The cocktails were amazing. Service was good...we were left alone for 2 hours and 20 minutes and were able to talk which was great. I find your policy of "only seating full parties" to be absurd when it's a table for 2 for a regular customer....think about it. Also in France, they will seat early arrivals at a table for 6. It's hospitality. It's what's nice for the guest, not what's convenient and profitable for the restaurant. That said, the girls, who were not especially apologetic, finally relented as I paced in the lobby and they seated me. My guest arrived shortly thereafter. Maybe you can make a note of this for next time. -Robert Frumkin

Excellent meal. I’m obsessed with their appetizer scallops that are consistently stellar. Tried the Sunday Roast: a great value (vs. rest of menu), perfectly cooked, & delicious. Spectacular service. Always beautiful aesthetic. Two Birthday groups today: so elevated & spirited excitement = noisier than usual. Still wonderful dining experience.

Service was excellent. Food looked like it was repurposed- incorrect temperature, vegetables scattered all over the plate, two pieces of roast vs the standard 3, Yorkshire pudding was stale/burned/dry, carrots were cold, etc. While we didn’t complain onsite (again, the bartender Alex was absolutely fantastic) the food was underwhelming. I’ve done the Sunday roast here before and it was delicious, must’ve been issues in the kitchen or we just had bad luck this go-around. I highly recommended it to my out of town guest and felt a bit embarrassed with what arrived plated, to be honest.
