Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

Sunday Roast

Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

They charge PRIME prices but deliver CHOICE meat. We were charged $190 for a shared Porterhouse and the meat lacking fat, was very chewy and not terribly tasty. I don’t mind paying steak house prices for top quality food but here it is a major disappointment.The salad was $19 for 5 pieces of Romain Lettuce in dressing. The creamed spinach was a bit more than a tea cup quantity, again for $19. Sooo disappointed. Would not return !

Dining with friends. As an appetizer, we had the diver scallops. They were to PERFECTION. Tender and delicious. The service was very attentive, timely, and anticipated our every need. The room is very nice. The architecture was pre-war - old New York. Unfortunately, the noise level was very competitive and somewhat difficult to hear each other. However, when looked around the room, you saw all patrons thoroughly enjoying themselves. I'd return to Hawksmoor. In all, food, service, and atmosphere was most enjoyable.

For what we paid, I would compare this to the other top steak houses in the city. The sides came out cold, steak was unfortunately overcooked, and overall everything food related was a bit lack luster for the price. Service was super attentive, ambiance was great, our waitress even gave us a free dessert for the overcooked steak. Sommelier recommended us an excellent bottle.

Fantastic place, great service and perfect food. Only “issue” is the level of noise is too hurtful. Because of the old building and maybe not enough “openings” in the top part, the noise which would in other circumstances be normal for a restaurant, was too loud. Otherwise, perfect experience.

Excellent service, fantastic steaks, flavorful scallops that were cooked to perfection, and tasty drinks. My party tried several things on the menu and enjoyed it all. Highly recommend.

The scallops are a must try. Our ribeye was good. We ordered medium and it seemed a bit more like medium well. The fries were good but nothing I would order again. My fiancé said the spinach was not good. It’s a beautiful building but the noise level is extremely high making it difficult to have a conversation. The bar area actually seemed to have a tolerable noise level. I would go back and sit at the bar and give them another try.
