Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

Sunday Roast

Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

The food and service were outstanding, and the space itself is just gorgeous. Our only problem was that we could barely hear each other across the table, and I was literally hoarse the next morning from shouting to my companions. Boy is that big back room loud.

Katie and the rest of the service was an absolutely amazing. Great drinks and the apps and sides were mostly awesome. Beautiful ambience. Filet and the beef fat fries slightly overcooked and oversalted.

Our first time and we will be back! Great cocktails, wine service and food overall. The dessert was the absolute highlight! Only minor notes were the knives were not very sharp for cutting the steak and our sauces were cold upon service.

All staff’s appearance was scruffy and far too casual for the environment. Some staff looked dirty, with greasy hair, torn clothing - none looked polished, as what should have been expected. The service was just ok. our wine took ages to be served and was not poured again after initial opening, we were on our own!. Disappointed in the experience overall honestly.

Our reservation was at 6;00 on Sunday. They were out of so many of the menu items, including many of the steaks, which is why one goes to this high end steakhouse. They were even out of the bread and butter on the menu! There wasn’t even free bread and butter offered. The experience was very expensive and quite disappointing.

Warm greeting at the door followed by a lovely welcome to the table by a manager covering for a server. Sunday roast was perfectly done and tasty. Accompaniments were so so. I think we for the end of the batch of roasted potatoes. Not well seasoned and stale. Server came back to the floor and kept leaning over the banquet to bus our table and hand us desert menu instead of eating it coming around table side. Very unprofessional and lazy to be frank.

I'm not a huge Sunday roast fan in general (I went because my best friend loves them) but theirs was excellent — how they get those potatoes that crispy is a mystery.

I knew going in this restaurant has a few locations so I went into it with appropriately tempered expectations, but I found the staff to be incredibly friendly and kind, a wine list with numerous excellent options below $150, and delicious food. The ambience was fantastic, too. I’ll definitely be back. A+.
