Welcome to Hawksmoor Chicago, where we bring our acclaimed steakhouse experience from the UK to the iconic LaSalle Powerhouse in River North. Our ethos is simple: ‘Buy the best and let it shine.’ We serve all-natural, pasture-reared, dry-aged beef from US family-run farms, cooked over charcoal and seasoned simply with sea salt. Our seafood, sourced from trusted Northeastern fishermen, is prepared with equal care.

In our 16,500 sq ft space, featuring barrel-vaulted ceilings and touches from the Golden Age of Travel, Hawksmoor is perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re stopping by for cocktails, a casual lunch or a special celebration, we make sure you leave full and happy. We also offer private dining for groups of 10 to full venue buy-outs for 500—ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and corporate events.

Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

It’s a simple concept: bring any wine you like – doesn’t matter if it’s a first-growth Bordeaux or a bottle of Barefoot – and we’ll only charge you $10 corkage (for up to two bottles). Not sure what to buy? Take a stroll over to our neighbors at the Aqua Wine & Spirits store (they’re literally on the other side of the street) and they’ll help you choose something to make your meal pop. You can even call us ahead of time and ask one of our somms what they suggest.

Cocktail Hour is kind of a big deal here at Hawksmoor. From 5 till 7pm, Monday to Friday, you can grab one of our world-class cocktails for a cool $12 – and we’re doing our freshly shucked Island Creek oysters for just $2 a pop. Try Chicago’s coldest martini – we serve ours at a bracing 10°f – with spicy Scotch Bonnet Oysters or our Full Fat Old Fashioned with charcoal-roasted bone marrow oysters. The best bit? No reservations required – just swing by when it suits you. Of course, if you’d like to stay for dinner, you can book a table any time.

I had indicated on Open Table that it was a special birthday event and contacted the restaurant. They confirmed that they were aware of my request. Our server was great but didn’t have a clue about the birthday request so dessert showed without a candle. Our table was located in a high traffic area, the alternative was next to a service area. Since we saw many desserts pass with candles, perhaps all the more desirable tables went to them. Good place for a casual steak dinner but not so special for a special occasion.

The food was decent, but the service was mid at best. Our server gave us an unsolicited recommendation that we try the scallops. While we didn’t order the scallops, to our surprise they showed up 10 minutes after we placed our order. When we told the person delivering and our server that we didn’t order them, they said it was a “promotion” and they were on the house. It’s on me for not checking my receipt until after we paid, but the scallops were in fact neither a promotion nor on the house, as I’d been charged for them. Overall, the ambiance was fine, the food decent, but I see no reason to return.

Service was excellent. Just lacked that special occasion atmosphere. Food was just ok. Halibut was way overcooked. Don’t see a need to go back.

Waiter seemed very frazzled, in a rush, and non-attentive after ordering drinks. At the end of meal he also seemed like he wanted us to hurry and leave since, as he said, he's been there since the morning. After we also ordered coffee to end the meal he finally just got another person to finish up with us.

Oysters were very good. Got upsold a bottle of wine by the sommelier. Told us last one. $200 for a $49 bottle of wine. No seats at the bar during happy hour….even though there was space for chairs. Very pricey for an average meal.

Excellent experience overall! All steaks for our guests were superb and done to perfection. I enjoyed the reasonably priced whole lobster and it was outstanding! Only suggestion may be need for a “seafood bib” as it was a bit “messy” . The sticky Toffee pudding dessert is quite possibly best we have ever had!! Only slight complaint is high priced wine list. Not many “medium” priced varieties options. Congrats Hawksmoor! You nailed it!

Overall a good meal, but very expensive for what it was. Our bill was a bit over $900 for 5 people (we had only 1-2 drinks per person). I highly recommend the Cast Iron Filet and Vietnamese Oysters - those were our 2 favorite items. The sides are extremely small and not large enough for more than 1-2 people to share. I personally think there are better steakhouses in the city.
