Hav & Mar is a vibrant seafood house from Chef Marcus Samuelsson located in the renowned arts district of Chelsea, NYC. The stunning dining room and dazzling bar, a mix of contemporary and classical design, features original work throughout by award-winning artist Derrick Adams. Chef Samuelsson and Executive Chef Fariyal Abdullahi's energetic and globally inspired menu focuses on thoughtfully sourced seafood and seasonal greenmarket produce. D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : Combinant son enfance suédoise et ses origines éthiopiennes, le célèbre chef Marcus Samuelsson offre aux New-yorkais·es un lieu innovant de cuisine fusion mettant les fruits de mer à l'honneur, et qui ne pouvait que venir de lui. Ces deux influences culinaires se conjuguent à merveille dans des plats tels que le saumon saumuré à la berbère accompagné d'eau de pomme et d'avocat, qui a valu à cet établissement prestigieux de Chelsea deux étoiles dans le New York Times. Creative menu, interesting restaurant design making the place more intimate. Our server was engaging and helped with selections. Very nice experience.

What a great time. We got fantastic seats near the bar with no one close by so it was really easy to hear. We got extra attention as I noted it was our anniversary. And, we were so impressed by the menu changes since our last visit-- a year ago. Excited to come back!

The server was very attentive. She was knowledgeable and helpful either menu choices. However there were additional costs that were not addressed on the menu prior to ordering certain items. There were hidden up charges that were not shown. The food was delicious but one item, the cabbage side, was difficult to eat because of its presentation. It was an entire quarter that was cooked whole. Cutting it apart from the stem was difficult. I don’t like fighting with my food. As for the dining room it was nicely decorated and the seating provided good acoustics for conversation. The only problem was that the room temperature was frigid. I noticed other women were wearing their dates jackets because it was so cold. All in all it was a delightful dining experience with different flavors to experience.

Food was outstanding. Really great flavor, presentation and variety. Service was a miss. Big gaps in between courses and follow-up by the server.

Our server (J) was very knowledgeable and so helpful by assisting us with explanations recommendations of the menu. She even brought us celebratory cordials for our anniversary and birthday celebrations. I will absolutely return to enjoy the seared char, ribeye, and bread platter. I would love to try other menu items but it would be hard to forgo the aforementioned selections. This restaurant is absolutely worth a visit.
