Our server (J) was very knowledgeable and so helpful by assisting us with explanations recommendations of the menu. She even brought us celebratory cordials for our anniversary and birthday celebrations. I will absolutely return to enjoy the seared char, ribeye, and bread platter. I would love to try other menu items but it would be hard to forgo the aforementioned selections. This restaurant is absolutely worth a visit.

The food at was so so and the service was slowed by a large party but the staff were apologetic. The peach cobbler had way too much cinnamon and overpowering garam masala.

The dining experience is unique and the melding of flavors and ingredients imaginative. We enjoyed the Corn Bread, tar tar, crudo, scallops, seafood pasta and branzino. The only tasty but predictable dish was the crab cake salad. The next time we go it will be the Chef’s Choice Menu.

Hav & Mar combines the visual elements, tastes, smells, textures, and idiosyncrasies of Swedish and Ethiopian cuisine in one location. Celebrated chef, Marcus Samuelson has created a culinary world where African and Western cuisines live together in perfect harmony. In his "Addis York", a vertically-positioned roll of sponge bread filled with Doro Wat (an addictive Ethiopian chicken stew) leans against a crispy, melt-in-your-mouth chicken drumstick, anointed with a sweet chili glaze. An almost-hard-boiled egg half provides a Scandinavian touch Every dish is inventive and playful––more importantly, the juxtapositions work! The restaurant is designed to be thoroughly enjoyed. And they've recruited a chill, caring staff to make you feel right at home. The main dining area, is dominated by a large, well-stocked circular bar, serving innovative cocktails such as a Manhattan flavored with Ethiopian cardamom. Every dish (and drink) we tried was memorable. Ocean Salad included a mound of crispy, oversized calamari rings, coated with a dry rub of black squid ink. It was accompanied by a gently smoked fish salad that might have come from Russ & Daughters, plus chilled, gently herbed jumbo shrimp that tasted like they were caught earlier that day. In addition to the Addis York, we enjoyed a fresh, perfectly grilled Arctic Char filet, served on a bed of sweet corn puree, with a side of couscous. A coconut tres leches cake was a tall tower of creamy, moist cake with bits of crunchy fresh passion fruit inside, and a separate dish of crispy coconut to sprinkle on top. More importantly, prices and portions are reasonable––no lone micro-garnished, blow-torched scallop on a tablespoon-sized bed of aramanth, with wisps of sea foam here. If you're feeling jaded about haute-y NYC restaurants or tired of places that spend more time creating visual perfection than filling your stomach, Hav & Mar is guaranteed to get a whole bunch of juices flowing (some of them yours!)

A wonderful experience at Hav & Mar. The food drink and service were exquisite. Try the Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin Martini. And crazy as it sounds you must have the Napa Cabbage side.
