The Hartwood Restaurant enjoys a rich history. The originally the headquarters of the Harmar Coal Company. Purchased in 1988, the building was transformed into retail space, including antiques and a bookstore. Café tables were soon added amongst the book shelves, Over the years, The Hartwood Restaurant has evolved into a charming and unique place for meals, drinks, and events. The elegant dining rooms and a pub featuring hand-tooled woodwork and stained glass artwork.
The Hartwood also features outdoor dining in a garden-like atmosphere, complete with a wood burning fireplace. Whisper’s Pub features an eclectic wine list from around the world with more than a dozen different wines by the glass, as well as seasonal cocktails, craft beers, and wine flights.
Enjoy the many different spaces our restaurant has to offer, including the intimate tables in our dining rooms, Whisper's Pub, dining al fresco, and private rooms for parties. It's the perfect location for your next meal or event.

All clean plates after the meal. We ordered the Crab appetizer special, swordfish special, scallops, and both entrees came with amazing risotto and asparagus, followed by Chambersburg Peach Bourbon Coffee Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. No question that we will be back!

Food and service - very good! Parking was a bit difficult - had to park in the lot across the street. Noise level was a bit loud.

For a restaurant called Whispers… it is loud in there. The food, however was phenomenal! We started with the croquettes and meatball appetizers. Both were fantastic. For the main course, I had the chèvre ravioli while my wife had the swordfish special. The risotto was a little under-seasoned, but the flavor of the fish more than made up for that. My ravioli was out of this world!

A very phenomenal dining experience at this restaurant along with exceptional service overall! The food was amazing and you can tell how chef curated these meals for me and my husband so exceptional. We will be coming back for sure with no question.

Pleasant meal and setting. The 4 of us dined at a table at the rear of the "bookroom", which allowed us to converse freely. Service was wonderful and efficient, without needless interference. Food was delectable and served hot, with two of us enjoying the fish sandwich with jumbo lump crabmeat. This was complemented by a Guinness draft. I think you should try The Hartwood and you will be pleased>
