The Hartwood Restaurant enjoys a rich history. The originally the headquarters of the Harmar Coal Company. Purchased in 1988, the building was transformed into retail space, including antiques and a bookstore. Café tables were soon added amongst the book shelves, Over the years, The Hartwood Restaurant has evolved into a charming and unique place for meals, drinks, and events. The elegant dining rooms and a pub featuring hand-tooled woodwork and stained glass artwork.
The Hartwood also features outdoor dining in a garden-like atmosphere, complete with a wood burning fireplace. Whisper’s Pub features an eclectic wine list from around the world with more than a dozen different wines by the glass, as well as seasonal cocktails, craft beers, and wine flights.
Enjoy the many different spaces our restaurant has to offer, including the intimate tables in our dining rooms, Whisper's Pub, dining al fresco, and private rooms for parties. It's the perfect location for your next meal or event.

We had a wonderful dinner at Lobster Fest. We both had the lobster tail and it was perfect. My best friend from kindergarten and I meet a couple times a year and usually have dinner at The Hartwood. Our dinners there have always been very good but Lobster fest was the highlight. Beautiful restaurant; would make a fantastic location for any special event such as a wedding. Our server, Lauren, was excellent. We will definitely return.

Just enjoyed another delicious meal at the Hartwood. Get the risotto-you won’t be sorry! Our party of six had excellent and attentive service from Alexis, and the hostess, Liz, greeted us warmly and sat us right away. Thank you for a lovely evening!

I wish I remember the waiters name, but he was outstanding. The food was just as good and we had a great time.

Have not been there few years. Went frequently 20 years ago before kids. Even with change of ownership(maybe twice?) our experience last night was exceptional, just like before. Wonderful coincidence that they seated us at the table for 6 with a padded bench to the side where my baby girl would sleep years ago while my husband and I were treated to a lovely dinner! Present day food and service were superb. Husband had pork special and I had filet. Guests loved their meals as well. Love the bookstore ambience that is still there! One of the sous chefs brought out portions of the meal and she was delightful to talk to. The employees seem very happy with their work which translates to outstanding hospitality. Will definitely be back! I think we found our new favorite restaurant now that we are empty nesters:)

Our food and service was great. A very nice quiet dinner. We had the Devonshire and Halibut and shared the peach bar. All were extremely enjoyable. Our server Ia.. was very attentive.

Restaurant is nice as was our 4 person table. The waiter was patient and never rushed us. Answered all our questions and was just the right amount of attentive. Food was very good. Three of us had Cottage Pie and the fourth had couscous with shrimp.
