On May 13, 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry's Bar in Venice. Over the years, Harry's Bar has become the place where writers, painters, artists, aristocrats, kings, and queens would meet. Among them were: Barbara Hutton, Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Giancarlo Menotti, Peggy Guggenheim, Orson Welles, Frank Lloyd Wright, Joe DiMaggio, Truman Capote, and Ernest Hemingway. The keys to the success of this small bar were: service, freedom, and lack of imposition.

Throughout its 93-year history, Harry's Bar has witnessed the 20th century in Venice. Its importance was also recognized by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, which declared it a national reference point in 2001. No other public place in Italy had received the same award in the same century.

Service was great. Given that the place was practically empty, we had low expectations once seated. The upstairs was very warm and stuffy. Same with downstairs. I wish they would’ve opened a window or had ventilation. Food was better than we thought it would be.

Excellent experience ! Food and drinks specially Bellini were amazing! The Carpaccio was the best I had tasted !

Had a reservation well in advance, which was great given the crowd out front when we arrived. When I left, I envied those turned away without a reservation. Not worth the hype. $25 Bellinis that tasted good, but not worth the price. Food was good overall, but again - not worth the price or hype. I had a HAIR in my pasta and they brought out the hair on a dish after taking the plate away, and I do not know why. It was gross. The re-done meal was hairless but left a bad taste in my mouth, and my partners - when we got the check they hadn’t done anything to make it right. Really disgusting service.

Una esperienza da fare almeno una volta nella vita - atmosfera internazionale, piatti con porzioni abbondanti, servizio attento, consiglio la sala al piano terra per il movimento, quella di sopra soprattutto di giorno per la vista dalle finestre

Visited Friday 20th September. We had to ask for our wine twice and then our aperitifs were forgotten about. Given that this was for our anniversary (and we had informed Harry’s about this at the time of booking), our table was right on the edge of the table area, within touching distance of the bar. Having visited several worldwide, this was by far the most disappointing. Food was lovely but that failed to detract from the overall experience - where we felt ignored (up until the point of paying).

Very friendly and welcoming staff! Delicious food and drink! Cozy atmosphere! We realized the next day that we left our credit card. We called and they said they had it! We are forever fans of Harry’s!
