On May 13, 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry's Bar in Venice. Over the years, Harry's Bar has become the place where writers, painters, artists, aristocrats, kings, and queens would meet. Among them were: Barbara Hutton, Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Giancarlo Menotti, Peggy Guggenheim, Orson Welles, Frank Lloyd Wright, Joe DiMaggio, Truman Capote, and Ernest Hemingway. The keys to the success of this small bar were: service, freedom, and lack of imposition.

Throughout its 93-year history, Harry's Bar has witnessed the 20th century in Venice. Its importance was also recognized by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, which declared it a national reference point in 2001. No other public place in Italy had received the same award in the same century.

In july we wear hermes oran flops And cant stay inside Because its open not closed for legs. Outside was 38 degrees.

Small and quaint venue. There is an upstairs and downstairs for seating. There are views of outside from upstairs windows. We had reservation but it was super busy at dinner time. Drinks were tasty yet very small portion. The food was not good though. No aroma in the restaurant. Food probably is pre-cooked.

The restaurant was supposed to be a legend but it is just decadent…very poor service, food very very expensive and small portions and the check was wrong !

This was for an anniversary treat. We were offered a table with a view upstairs or a very good table downstairs. I overheard a couple saying they wanted a table with a view upstairs. So I asked for upstairs. Downstairs was very noisy with people at the bar. Upstairs was for the locals. Hence being urged to stay downstairs. As the reviews mentioned the bread is divine, the Bellini is excellent. The food is fantastic but it should be for the over pricing. Overall I would say pop in the bar for the famous Bellini and leave it at that.

Harry’s Bar is always a good experience. Food is exactly what you expect, amazing taste, great sized portions and a good homemade presentation. The ambiance and the dishes have a homey feeling to it. Besides, I had never tried the non alcoholic Bellinis before and this time I went for it. They were just as good!

Really competent and attentive staff. Luxurious food. Thrilling ambience. A playful place to see and be seen. The home of the Bellini !

From the moment my husband and I entered the restaurant we were met with the sourest and rudest staff and service. We came to celebrate our anniversary, and last night in Venice, with the famous Bellini and dessert. We were moved over to the bar immediately. Poor service continued while sat at the bar, where my husbands drink order was wrong, with no opportunity presented to recover. When it came time to pay the staff hurried us out the door. I’m happy I didn’t stay for anything other than my drink because this historic venue we were so excited to enjoy turned out to be the most disappointing evening in Venice. This establishment is clearly relying on history to get people in the door with very little to show for itself in the way of ambiance, generosity, or hospitality.
