Ever since our great Aunt Bebe starting selling hamburgers and beer on her back porch during Prohibition, Hackney's has been making people happy!

Today we're famous for our big juicy Hackneyburgers on Hackney's Dark Rye® and our one-of-a-kind Hackney';s Original French Fried Onions®. Prohibition may be over, but our beer selling days are not. Hackney's has an ever-changing list of tap beers along with a full-service bar that can whip up any cocktail you can think of.

Considering it was a Saturday night, the restaurant was pretty empty. The waitress we had was not good. She spent more than talking to the co workers. She forgot side dishes and they were cold. If not for the patio and the beautiful night, we would not have gone there.

It has been several years since I was at a Hackney's location. I decided to visit the location on Lake Street in Glenview and the food and service was fantastic. It brought back many past memories from years gone by when I use to visit the Lake Zurich location.

We were seated on the terrace by request which was very nice on a lovely evening. Although the Hackneyburger was the same, the other food seems to have gone down in quality, ie. turkey portion on the sandwich was skimpy and dried out. Service was very slow. Our server stopped at our table a couple of times to apologize and to say that he would be right back to take our order. He was moving fast and working hard, with a constant smile on his face. We noticed that he was working the entire stretch of the patio with some support of others delivering meals, but it was too much for any one server to handle efficiently. Maybe this was an "off" night for service, but Hackney's needs more people on the floor. Kudos to the server who tried to handle it all with poise and good humor.

Hackney’s on Lake is a great place to meet up with friends for lunch. The service is always excellent and the food is really good. I only wish that they had even more healthy options, especially in the burger category. I’d love to see a portobello burger and a salmon or tilapia sandwich on the menu. We’ll be back for sure!

Wanted to like this place because of the overall kitchy environment- think retro grandparents basement. But as the meal went on it just felt like an unkempt house. Service was ridiculously slow despite the place not being very busy. Out party of 6 had mainly sandwiches and burgers and took over an hour to get our food. Refills on drinks, other than water, was painstakingly slow. Food wasn’t crazy expensive since but felt that way when it arrived as it was very average. Two orders were prepared wrong and because the service was slow took too long to get extra condiments to even doctor or food and enjoy. Outside patio looked nice. It was humid out so we didn’t want to be outside. Good size patio so maybe that would have helped the overall experience.

Hackney’s is a favorite of the northern suburbs, and with good reason. It is one of the friendliest and most welcoming restaurants I know. Everyone, from the hosts to the bartenders to the waitstaff, seem to all work together to give their guests the best experience possible. And of course the burgers and onion rings are THE BEST! And now they have a Smashburger too- it’s awesome!

We used to go all the time and now I know why we don’t go anymore. I asked for a table in the main dining area and the girl gave the table away because another party didn’t want to wait for the other table to be cleaned. The server was nasty, the table and carpet dirty, food was yuck. The Waittress brought out the birthday cake in the bag for my mother’s 76ty birthday. Nice! We won’t be going back. Sad how bad it’s gotten. I’ll go to nortons for a delicious burger with always great service!

We arrived promptly at our 5:45 PM reservation time. We were seated promptly, given drinks, and had our order taken by 6:00 PM. Then we waited untill 7:20 PM for our food. So, an hour and 20 minutes. That's unacceptable. When they arrived, the sandwiches had clearly been sitting around a while after cooking, because they were lukewarm and starting to get soggy. The fries were stone cold. We asked for some hot fries, and a few minutes later our waiter delivered another platter of cold fries. The restaurant was busy, but honestly I've been to Hackneys before when it was even busier, and the food was excellent. We were SO disappointed by our experience there last night. I'm not sure if I'll ever dine at Hackneys again. Sad.
