Hacienda Mexican Restaurant was founded in 1968 by Mexican-born restaurateur Norberto Rodriguez with the goal of introducing authentic Mexican cuisine to the greater St. Louis area. The restaurant was an immediate success and to satisfy growing customer demand, our current location on Manchester Road in Rock Hill was founded in 1977 in one of the area’s most historic buildings which dates all the way back to the 1860’s.

For over 40 years, Hacienda Mexican Restaurant has remained entirely family owned and operated and been continually committed to realizing Norberto Rodriguez’s vision of serving authentic Mexican food in a festive atmosphere with the highest level of hospitality. Had a reservation. Had to wait in bar anyway. Restaurant is way understaffed. Service was slow but not the waiters fault. Food was sent out wrong and was not very good. The attention was on the crowded patio and not on the tables inside. This restaurant is a shell of what it used to be. From the ownership to the management to the menu, all are lacking.

This is not been my first time to Hacienda, and I took five other people tonight for a special dinner. Our server Melvin was wonderful. The food was delicious and I have absolutely no complaints other than I am way too full!

Our group of 6 (@happy hour) were seated in the DR area adjacent to the “atrium” where the room connects with the larger round dining room. That room was blocked off & dark as was the largest DR in the back. An industrial type fan was blowing into the room & the AC was on the fritz (97F and humid) We asked for a different table & they reluctantly obliged. We were given menus, silverware & chips/salsa. No H2O. A table of 6 young women at one table & a group of 3 at another in the room with us. Not much business to speak of in the other areas of the restaurant. We had to flag down the one server in this room to ask our table was one of his. Nope. He talked with the host who sent a server over. I will shorten this review by just saying she was not a happy Hacienda employee & it showed. She brought the beverages to our table & stood at the “head” of the table & had us pass the drinks to one another instead of actually moving about the sides of the table to either place them on the table or hand them to us individually. She did the same thing when the food came out. Have you ever heard the term “if looks could kill?” Well, that’s the look we got when we asked (at the beginning of the process of ordering beverages) to have separate checks. Surely, she’s had to “deal with” customers requesting this before. ANYWAY, the only food choice I can comment on is my selection: chicken chimichanga served with rice and beans. The chimichanga had the white cheese sauce on top which was the only flavor profile I can say it had. There was some sort of red stuff very lightly coating the shredded boiled chicken in the chimi. ZERO spices. The beans were like wallpaper paste; cold and flavorless. The Mexican Rice was also cold & tasted like plain white rice. Our group had made plans a couple months ago to meet on this particular date for happy hour “somewhere” & Hacienda was chosen for their expansive patio. Next time; food/service reviews over patio seating.

Disappointed. That's the headline. Used to love this place and visited semi-regularly pre-pandemic. First visit back since. I'll start by saying, I was disappointed they took their best item off the menu, the Mexican pork steak. That's the main reason we chose to come here instead of Rosalita's. I used to bring out of town business visitors here but wouldn't any more. One member of our party ordered the cilantro lime bowl. We weren't sure if it was supposed to be this way but it was served cool. I get that lettuce would be cool but you would think the steak would be warm. Need to call that out on the menu. He was disappointed with his meal. Another member ordered chicken fajitas. They were delivered to our table by someone other than our waiter. He also brought the set ups to go with but for some weird reason didn't bring tortillas. He set it all down and asked if she wanted tortillas??? Isn't that an essential ingredient in tortillas. In fairness, the fajita meat was delicious. Third member of our party just ordered a combo of 3 platter. It was fine, for what it was. The salsa is still the best around but we were disappointed it was served is skimpy little plastic ramakins. We buy it all the time at Schnucks and will continue to do so. The service was just "off". Our waiter was way too chill. Definitely seem high. I have no issue with one partaking but not if you can't do it and still give decent service. He didn't seem inexperienced, just lazy or forgetful. It was all the little stuff, keeping water full, bringing napkins when requested (twice), etc. Disappointing for a supposedly "better" restaurant. Guess when we want "upscale" Mexican, we'll stick to Rosalita's, it's closer to our house anyway.

Sry to write a bad review. I use to enjoy going. They were so busy, everyone ( with reservations ) were told a 40 min wait. I complained and they sat us pretty quick( 🎉) food took over an hour to get and it was cold. They were understaffed and soooo busy. I’m not going back for awhile. Outside seating looked amazing. Couldn’t sit there for 1 1/2 hr

I had a reservation on Easter Sunday. I got a reminder and asked for confirmation that I was still coming a couple days before. When we got there on Easter, there was a giant sign in the parking lot saying they were CLOSED for Easter! Not great communication Open Table/Hacienda!!
