Just not great. So many better options. We had the "Flavor of Japan" option, $55 p/p. Figured we would get a little of everything good. they started bring out coursed too fast until I told then. One appetizer, skewered chicken was very good. Another was a fried ball of mashed potatoes (I think) with a tiny bit of calamari in the center (or so we were told). Weird and not great. I don't think that is a Japanese delicacy. The miso soup was all salt. Then came a salad with too much dressing. The meat came next, several kinds of beef and pork and shrimp. The meat was not the best quality and the shrimp was, well, four pieces of shrimp. He called a side dish "Broccoli fondue" It was Broccoli in foil which you put over the flame and some cheese which you melf in a little dish. The cheese has a weird, not fresh, taste. The barbeque yourself at the table is fun. He warned me when it came to the pork, which was all fat, to cook only one piece at a time, which is exactly what I did. When I turned that one piece, the flame shot up and he scolded me :-), "I TOLD you ONE PIECE at a time". That, by the way, was the only thing he said that understood. Hey, this is NYC and we welcome and love people from all over the world, and English is very hard to learn. I get it. We find foreign accents very charming, but when your accent is still very thick, all we ask is that you slow down a bit. Some one should tell him.

Shared the meat lovers menu with my wife. Service on entry was polite and was taken to our table promptly. Our waiter explained menu options and guidelines for the BBQ. The food and steak was delivered in stages allowing us to enjoy the BBQ experience and not feeling rushed. We enjoyed the variety of steaks and different textures and flavors. Ambience was relaxed and service on point throughout.

The food is delicious, but they give you a two hour limit (when you’re coming your own food, even for large parties) and then the service was slow. Send the dessert back because it was very dry.

Gyu-Kaku is one of the best restaurants around. I have never had a bad experience there. I have frequented this location many times. The staff was amazing. The bathroom was clean and neat. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Gyu-Kaku for any lunch or dinner meal.
