    Gulfstream Cafe’s Sunset Deck is as unique as the restaurant itself. With romantic views of the sunset, its own entrance and bar– it’s like having a small restaurant reserved just for you and your guests.The deck and bar can accommodate up to 40 guests for a seated event or up to 50 for a cocktail reception.     We were told Gulfstream Cafe was beautiful. That is true it’s gorgeous with the sunset. We sat outside. The tables were wonky and the umbrella was broken and after a day in the sun we needed some coverage. The waiter was clearly overworked as the restaurant was desperately understaffed with servers. There were plenty of food runners but no one actually attending to customers in a timely manner. We had to put in orders for things each time the waiter did come because we knew it would be a 20 minute wait before he came back. The mashed potatoes were delicious, but there weren’t many fresh seafood options that weren’t fried. Overall our visit was disappointing. Selling yourselves on the view alone is a dangerous game, because once people eat there they will know not to necessarily come back. More servers, updated outdoor seating, and a few other simple, fresh menu choices to appeal to the masses would do this restaurant well.

    We had a lovely dinner celebrating our anniversary with our two daughters. The hush puppies were spot on, along with the cocktails! Every entree was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our server was excellent and very friendly and personable. We appreciated the complimentary champagne offered also. An overall lovely evening.

    Food is always good. We come here every year. This is my favorite restaurant at the beach. Great views of the inlet. Downside this year is that there is very little parking available. Hopefully that will be resolved by next year.

    I am pretty sure I’ve gone to this restaurant every summer since…I don’t know… the mid-90’s sometime. It isn’t quite what it used to be and that honestly really disappointing. Our server was great. I certainly can’t complain about him. He was pleasant, happy, prompt, and attentive. The views were spectacular as always. We were treated to a particularly beautiful sunset over the marsh. But the food was just…ok. This used to be the best she-crab soup I could find in the area. If this had been my first experience at this restaurant I’d probably never go back, not because it was awful, but because use there is no shortage of places that are truly fabulous here. The soup this time was not hot. I think it sat out for awhile before being served to me. It was starting to separate and looked kind of…curdled? I knew it wasn’t, but it wasn’t appetizing to look at. I stirred it up and went at it, anyway. It was fine, I guess. Nothing special. In years past I dared not leave a single drop behind. This time, I ate almost all of it and just gave up. I also had hush puppies. They were good. Again- not great, but definitely good. Large portion of them, for sure. My kids each had fried shrimp and French fries and yet more hush puppies. We left with enough hush puppies to feed a whole other family, it seemed, so I definitely ordered more than necessary. The boys (both 13) said the shrimp was good. They didn’t devour it, but they ate. I tried fry. It was quite good. But, good fries aren’t my barometer for what makes a good meal. All in all, in seeing one of my absolute favorite restaurants on the east coast slip in quality year after year, I think I’ll probably not give it another chance next summer. There’s a place down in Pawley’s Island that I think really does now have the best she-crab soup. I’ll drive the little bit extra way and go there instead, next time.

    Loved our dinner. Service was very friendly and dinner was served quick. It really was the best grouper I have ever had. It is our new favorite restaurant!

    The seating and view were great. The food and cocktails were very enjoyable. Our server, Nicole, was not personable at all. She didn’t make us feel welcome or valued - it was like she didn’t want to ask us more than she had to in case we needed something extra. There were 6 of us and all local - Southern born and raised- we didn’t get warm fuzzies from Nicole.
