In the heart of the East Devon countryside, surrounded by acres of farmland, you'll find the award-winning Greendale Farm Shop and it's family-friendly café & restaurant. The Greendale Farm Shop Café and Restaurant is much loved by visitors and locals alike. We offer a new extensive menu, created around many of the items sold in our shop and showcasing local produce from our farm and fishing boats. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are no problem and we have a children's menu for the little ones, too. We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as tea and coffee, delicious cakes and Devon cream teas.

Once you've eaten why not take a stroll along our family farm trail. The trails follow a level path that’s just right for pushchairs and little legs where you can say hello to all of the animals, including Oscar the Ostrich.

On Sunday and Monday evenings, from 3.30pm, our restaurant serves from our extensive fish and chip menu only.

    Food was delicious, however the service was very slow, lots of very young staff who didn’t seem that confident in what they were doing. Yes it was busy, but even after tables started to leave, we still waited a long time for our dessert and extra drinks.

    Booking was easy, the welcome at arrival was good. We were shown to our table after a few minutes (we did arrive a few minutes early). Drinks order was pretty much instant. Took about 20 minutes for the drinks to come out however I feel that was reasonable given how busy it was. Food order was taken about 15 minutes in and the server was very approachable, we asked for a slight swap on the children’s menu which was accommodated and very much appreciated. Food came out and at this point we were incredibly happy. We were asked how our food was second after receiving the last plate and whilst a check in is great, this is where a bit of spacing would have gained them an extra star from us. About 10 minutes into our meal, began trying to get the attention of a server. I spent about 7 minutes before giving up and approaching the bar. During that time I actively waved at the person behind the bar. Who began heading over, got stopped by another table. Sorted what they needed and headed back to the cutlery they were cleaning seeming to have forgotten us. On 3 occasions servers walked past and didn’t respond when I said excuse me. I appreciate it was a touch noisy but I’m not known for being quietly spoken. I finally approached the bar, asked for 3 drinks for the children. One including a black current squash. Drinks were brought over and it transpired that the squash for our youngest was ‘fizzy’ I’m assuming it had been topped up with soda water rather than tap water. I then had to approch the bar and ask for it to be swapped. It was swapped quickly and with an apology. I then sat back down to food which was now cold. My only 2 comments really are that a check in once we had started our meals would have saved a fair amount of hassle and a cold meal. Also that it would be nice to physically see the bill before paying for it. On both occasions we have eaten here an over charge has happened. I will ask for a printed copy next time.

    The wait for drinks was ridiculous. Food came out and drinks nowhere in sight, we had been sat down for 25 minutes. Inquired how much longer drink would be and told there were 5 more tickets in front. Rather unusual to get your breakfast tea a significantly long time after you've finished your breakfast. Service is normal really excellent so disappointed today.

    We arrived late in the evening so most people had finished their food. Menu small but good choices. Portions were huge but delicious. Staff friendly and helpful.

    When we arrived we were greeted by a very polite waitress. She welcomed us and before taking us to our table she informed us there would be a wait of over an hour for food. Sadly we decided that a wait of over an hour for food was unacceptable and we left and went hone. We did ask why it would be over an hour and she told us that they were short on chefs today, but she did seem a bit unsure. She was very polite and apologic the whole time. We have eaten at Greendale a few times before and the food has always been good, but there has always been a little longer than usual wait for food. We just felt that to be told that the wait would be over an hour before we even sat down, by the time we had sat down and order how long would the wait actually be to get food. Our table was booked for 1.45pm and we arrived on time.

    Met with a gruff welcome at reception. Order taker was helpful & food actually arrived will within the time frame given. 2 of our table of six ordered fish of the day. The fish was fine, but there was an issue with the quality of the Samphire, which we queried with a server, who went to speak to the chef. The server returned with a message from the chef “that’s how it’s supposed to be”. Our big issue with the situation was that nobody senior came to speak to us, it was just left to the server to relay a disinterested message.
