Located at 9 Kensington Square, London, a short stroll from Hyde Park, Grato is a chic Italian restaurant. With a focus on regional cuisine and the freshest ingredients, every dish is imbued with culture. Our handmade pasta is crafted with love in our very own kitchen; our wines are sourced from artisan vineyards. Our evolving menus reflect the seasons and celebrate Italy’s culinary wonders.
Dine on the ground floor overlooking one of London's oldest garden squares or you can dine alfresco facing the lush square. At the lower level is another dining room reminiscent of an Italian wine grotto - the perfect space for a celebration.

We accept all credit cards (no AMEX) & cash.Our outdoor tables are timed for 1.5hr to allow other guests to enjoy al fresco. We cannot always guarantee a seat of your choice. Thank you

The food was amazing, my husband & I got both of the specials. The tiramisu was drool worthy; it was simply the best tiramisu I have ever had. The location was quaint, as well as intimate. The server was helpful with recommendations. I would definitely book a reservation, which we did, as it got very busy; however, the staff was super accommodating & thoughtful to guests that didn’t have a reservation.

We had lunch seated outside facing a lush garden. This is one of our best meals in London! Loved the Pumpkin Ravioli and Buratta. Finished it with Tiramisu - yummy! Attentive service and would recommend booking it did get busy.

We were really looking forward to a nice Italian meal based on the positive reviews, but our experience was quite disappointing. Despite the manager/owner’s emphasis on the quality of ingredients, we felt the meal did not reflect this. The bread served at the start tasted like it came from a supermarket, and the main courses were overcooked and below average. When we tried to provide feedback, the manager was dismissive and didn’t allow us to express our concerns. While the service and location were good, the food quality was a significant letdown.

Hello Nitin Premchandani Your table ordered Fresh Tagliolini with Black Truffle and a Risotto with Seeded Sourdough bread. The bread is NOT from a supermarket made by a Danish baker in London. When you insisted on not paying the Service Charge, what you consider dismissive, is common practice for a restaurant to ask why, to understand if there was anything wrong with the service...you said the food was not upto YOUR standard and your wife said you enjoyed the Truffle Tagliolini but not the Risotto. You could see we were very busy inside and outside. The fresh tagliolini is not overcooked but a fresh pasta hence soft which cannot be cooked al dente! We did remove the SC from the bill, however possibly your complaints were indicative of an expectation for further discounts on the bill!!

We went very early for a pre-theatre meal, we were warmly welcomed. The staff are charming, the food is delicious it's a lovely intimate restaurant, we wanted to eat outside. It got busy later on so book ahead. We wanted to eat light so went for the heritage tomato salad for starter, couldn't resist the crab pasta for main course-was sublime. Will definately return.

Al fresco dining on a balmy evening at its best - a hidden gem - top quality local modern Italian - short menu but everything is prepared to perfection. Run by really friendly husband and wife team.

Delicious food but was pushed off our table after 90 minutes. We were there to celebrate but left a little deflated after given out marching order by staff

Thank you for your review. Our outdoor tables are limited hence timed for 90 minutes to allow other guests who were waiting to enjoy al fresco dining. Thank you for your understanding.

Absolutely the WORST SERVICE in London. We were kicked out of the terrace after only 50 minutes of sitting there. Though the food is good, the service is absolutely horrendous. My friend arrived at 6:50 for a booking scheduled at 7:00, and the first thing she was asked was, “When is your friend (myself) coming? If she is not here in 10 minutes, we will move you inside because you can’t sit on your own outside.” This is not the kind of service you would expect at the very beginning of your visit. I arrived at 7:05, just five minutes after the booking time. At 7:50, we were presented with the bill despite not having asked for it and being told “you can finish your drink and pay”. Rude, especially since we were seated for an hour, even though the table was supposedly reserved for 1.5 hours. Throughout our entire time there, we felt rushed and pressured, which completely ruined our experience. We came to have a relaxing dinner and drinks, not to be hurried constantly. Additionally, the outside area is permitted for smoking as the restaurant offers ashtrays. Lots of restaurants in London have alfresco dining but still do not allow people to smoke on their terraces. The table next to us was smoking, so were we. Thirty minutes later, we were asked to stop as people were eating. I understand, but in this case, make the terrace smoke-free. I am not sure why this is encouraged initially with ashtray. To make matters worse, the staff falsely claims we arrived at 6:30. Our booking was for 7:00 and my friend arrived at 6:50. If the restaurant was as busy as they claimed, they wouldn’t have seated her before the reservation time. This is dishonest and unacceptable; please stop. Just acknowledge the fact that you were wrong and provided bad service, full stop. The service we received was the worst we have experienced in London and we have been to many places across the city. I do not recommend this place whatsoever. AND PLEASE STOP MESSAGING ME IN PRIVATE DMs here, too much!

You were seated at the table for 1.5hr, you may have forgotten one of you arrived half hour early and was immediately seated at the table. Our al fresco tables are very much in demand and are timed for 1.5hr - we had booked guests waiting for outdoor tables!!
