Joel, Lani and staff take each entree to a much higher level than any other restaurant we have experienced. I have eaten at many of the restaurant’s where the chefs are a james Beard award nominee or award winner. Joel’s offerings over the last years has gone from equal to James Beard award nominees to on par or much superior than current and past James Beard award winners. Sourcing of ingredients is a passion of his. Attention to every detail to make each dish outstanding is there in every offering. You come to realize and appreciate the time, cost and effort of true farm or sea to table restaurant which is practiced to the highest degree here. 10 out of 10

The food was amazing as always. My only complaint would be that the 2 most expensive entrees ( the lobster pasta and the beef short rib ) were very small portions- while both were delicious , $45 should buy you a bigger portion. Definitely had room for dessert which was also yummy.

On a scale of one to 10, the lobster risotto, one of the specials, was a 12! Chef Joel is a very talented and creative chef. Actually, everything on the menu was a 10. Our wait person Nicole was a delight. Very knowledgeable about the dishes and about the chef. An excellent wine list. Highly recommend Grano Arso as often as you can get there.

Very good traditional Italian food. Pasta and rice dishes cooked perfectly. Excellent sourdough rustic bread, but only 1 piece each served. Serving sizes small enough to not require left over boxes. The meal was not outstanding only because the foods and preparations were traditional and not unique, the food was all excellent.

Excellent food prep and well-trained staff. Everyone in my group of six loved it except me. I liked it. The prep of the chicken and greens was magnificent. I have some special food needs for which the only answer was to cut out part of the meal, the pasta, so I left hungry. For me, a restaurant with a pasta focus is not the place, however I had to go with the wishes of the group. Knowing that was an issue, they could game increased the portions of chicken and/or greens to make a filter meal. Additionally, they should offer a non-alcohol beer. That would be additional business.

We ordered way more than we needed as the menu is always spectacular and it seems crazy not to indulge and share when at Grano Arso. Best Cesar salad I have ever had (dressing and greens took it to a new level) and the onion tart with figs, Gorgonzola and pecans was mouthwatering. The fresh spaghetti with mussels in a Meyer lemon and ginger “sauce” was light and absolutely brilliant. I had the leftovers for breakfast the AM. My daughter had pasta with braised pork in a roasted red pepper ragu and loved it. Don’t miss dessert. There are always delicious choices. Cassandra was lovely and attentive but not hovering. Perfect balance. G.A. continues to be a favorite in CT…or anywhere.
