Gjelina is a restaurant that serves locally-sourced, produce-forward food with menus guided by conversations and long-standing relationships with farmers, local ranchers, fishermen, and co-ops. Our first location Gjelina LA in Venice Beach opened in 2008 becoming a staple in the local community. In 2023, we opened a Gjelina location in New York at 45 Bond Street. A month into being open, we had a fire and had to close our doors. As we complete construction and prepare for our reopening in fall 2024, Gjelina NY has had a series of pop-ups this summer, beginning with WSA in June and July, and NO BAR at The Standard, East Village, for the month of August. Our third location, Gjelina Las Vegas is scheduled to open at the end of 2024.

heirloom tomato salad was outstanding, but other dishes were way over-salted service was outstanding

The food was somewhat disappointing flavorwise. Of the 6 items sampled, only the mussels & tagliatelle were outstanding.

We were disappointed by our meal at the NYC Gjelina pop up. The service was tough, but our waiter was covering a large number of tables and spread thin. Some of the food was good (the pastas) but a lot of the food was so salty. It was the saltiest food we've ever eaten out at a restaurant. The menu online was also different than the menu in the restaurant. Online we only saw a lunch menu (inclusive of pizzas) and there were no pizzas on the menu. Maybe this had to do with the kitchen fire at their previous pop-up spot, but the menu needs to be updated online. Overall, we were disappointed by the meal mainly because we are such fans of the location in Venice.

I BELIEVE THAT WHEN THE. RESTAURANT REOPENS IN THE PERMANENT HOME THE FOOD WILL BE CONSISTENTLY BETTER WITH MORE CHOICES

I was so excited to experience the pop-up—Gjelina is one of my all-time favorite restaurants and I make a point of going any time I’m in LA. I eagerly awaited the NYC opening and like so many, was so sad to hear about the fire. The pop-up seemed like a perfect way to help the team and celebrate the re-opening. We booked a seven person table for my birthday. While the staff were kind and doing their best, we were disappointed. The food didn’t sparkle the way I remembered. The entire place was understaffed making everything very slow (again, everyone was kind and doing their best but they need more help!) Many things we wanted to order were out, from wine to liquor to menu options. With the limited menu we tried most of the options and nothing really wowed us. I normally don’t provide negative feedback without the intent of hopefully helping (especially when I can see people hustling and trying). I know it’s a tough environment to run a pop up and I am hopeful the restaurant opening will be better set-up. I’d love the chance to get a table when it does.

I had the heirloom tomato salad that was excellent for a starter. My main course was the chicken which was okay as I did not feel it was anything outstanding for the price paid. Service was somewhat slow - maybe because we sat outside and only one other table was being served out there as well.
