Giovanna is the second restaurant created by Chef and Owner Richard Cranmer. Sister restaurant Zinicola, located in Ballantyne, has been a success in bringing authentic Italian food to the area, and Chef Richard hopes to bring that to the Lower Southend (LoSo) area. Giovanna is inspired by Chef Richard’s family, especially his mother and Nonna. He brings authentic Italian cuisine to life with a modern twist on classic recipes. We specialize in house made Italian cuisine from pastas, pizzas, and desserts! Our goal here at Giovanna is to provide delicious food and excellent service to our guests!

Service was exceptional. Food was very good. Our bread service was a little over done but the meals were excellent. The warehouse look of the restaurant doesn’t really fit for an Italian restaurant but it doesn’t take away from the experience. They should offer a side salad as an option. The drinks were acceptable

I don't like to use this term but here I cannot find other words: Hidden Gem. We eat out a lot, and last night wanted to try something new. Giovanna popped up on the OpenTable app and we live not far away so we decided to take a leap of faith. It did not disappoint. In fact, we were very surprised as to the quality of the food. The inside looks modern and quaint. Some of the picture you may see make it feel a bit sterile, but it is not like that at all inside. The kitchen is wide open for you to see the action and the large bar sits against the outside window. There is a large patio with a fairly nice view of LoSo. Service was great too. Wife had stuffed portabella shrooms and a Caesar salad. I had the branzino which came as the whole fish fillet. it was delicious and well paired with a glass of pinot grigio. They also have specialty cocktails, most traditional ones with an Italian twist based on the liquors they use. Only observation is they have this beautiful barista station machine, but it is sort of hiding in the back and not at the bar - it looks like the bar area may be a bit too tight on the back side. Also, it is an Italian restaurant, but we did not find Prosecco - they do have other bubbles though. We can't wait to come back and bring friends here.

Our first time trying Giovanna and it was a great experience! The food was super tasty and the service was on point. We will be back and definitely want to try the Chicken Parmesan!!

Delicious, every bite. The meatballs were tender and perfectly seasoned and so good. The lasagne was a meld of two sauces and we loved it. The pizza was perfect and yummy. Good wine selection and great service. Very welcoming and attentive!

I rarely take the time to write an interview but this local restaurant is excellent. Giovanna is truly deserving five stars and if possible, I would give it 10 stars!

First visit and I was excited to go because I read a lot of positive reviews. I love Italian food, especially if it’s homemade. Maybe I expected more but I don’t wanna sound negative because the food was overall good however, I found the menu to be limited the portions to be small and I did not tie the ambience to the quality of food. I think the layout and the interior just doesn’t have any vibe is very stark. the open kitchen concept is nice, but you can’t really see in. You can see the guys cooking from a distance, but that’s not gonna sell me for a return visit. I also am not a fan of high top bar tables for dinner and we had an early reservation at 7 PM and we were seated at a high top which I just thought was weird when they were other low top tables available inside the restaurant. unfortunately for me I don’t think this is going to be my top Italian restaurant in Charlotte. I know competition is tough but still have my favorites and they’re pretty hard to beat these days.
