We had afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the gardens. Food, service, atmosphere was all simply perfect and the highlight of our trip to Devon. Highly recommend

We were looking forward to celebrating my birthday at my favourite Michelin starred restaurant. I booked lunch for two at 1:00pm on a Tuesday. The day before our visit, in response to an email, I reaffirmed our attendance online. At the same time, I was handily shown a delicious menu setting out my choices of three courses for £60. Everything looked good. However, on Tuesday morning, I took a call from one of the management team who informed me that something was wrong. Although she confirmed my booking, it wasn’t for a three course meal in the restaurant as those weren’t available on a Tuesday. Apparently, something had gone wrong with the OpenTable software. Our visit was cancelled. The Hotel Manager has assured me that when I visit he will make sure that we are well looked after, whatever that means. So disappointing! What lesson do I take away? You can't trust OpenTable for making bookings.

A very special and romantic place well worth a visit. Everything from the service to the food was of the highest standard. The attentive and meticulous staff were fab, the food was delicious and intriguing. My partner enjoyed his vegetarian options on the tasting menu. The decor has been well maintained to make you feel as though you’re in a rustic, dated and totally enthralling manor. We were lucky enough to have made our reservation on the day of our visit however I would highly recommend booking well in advance as a pre booked taxi service is essential to take along the enchanting winding and narrows roads.

We found the bar staff very pretentious and when we arrived we were shown into the lounge area but then were completely ignored while other people gave their food and drink orders. We moved to the terrace and ordered drinks there and waiter tried to order a £25 glass of white for us but my husband sent that one back and ordered another more reasonably priced £14 glass. Very pricey meal (£125 each for 3 courses) and my husband thought his beef was tasteless. He told the waiter when we left.

A fantastic lunch experience at Gidleigh Park. As you might expect the food was faultless and the setting is truly stunning. Upon arrival we were welcomed into the lounge area, with beautiful views of Dartmoor and Gidleigh's babbling brook. This set the scene for an afternoon of traditional, opulent fine dining. Service was a little leisurely at times, but we concluded that this was part of the 'experience', which is best savoured in a relaxed fashion and shouldn't be judged by city standards.

Gidleigh Park Hotel, Chagford, Devon, TQ13 8HH Dont rely on Sat Nav to give you the right directions to this wonderful idyllic spot - thankfully we arrived in the locality with half an hour to spare! Meal was wonderful - particularly the dessert of mango mousse and rice pudding ice cream.
