With a name that means "cozy or nice atmosphere, but also belonging and general togetherness," gezellig invites guests to experience an elegant menu of local, seasonal cuisine using french techniques in a casual and welcoming environment. Located in Ottawa, Ontario, gezellig prepares each menu item using high-quality ingredients purchased locally. On the menu are items such as seared scallops, braised beef shortibs, potato gnocchi, beef tartare, duck breast, and wild-caught lingcod. Our classic butterfinger for dessert is a staple that has been on our menu since opening in 2012

Ambiance is good - food is only fair - value is poor given the cost - one should expect a lot better for the price and reputation.

Unfortunately, the Gezelling burger leaves a lot to be desired.

The lunch time table d'hote of 2 small plates for $30 is a great price for such wonderful food. For small plates, the portions were generous. Everything was seasonal, fresh and prepared to perfection. There was a good variety of choices between seafood, meat, vegetarian (salad and soup) and excellent desserts! And the plating was so beautiful. Excellent beverage selection as well. My fave is always the Blanc de Beckta (house white bubbly). My only regret was that I was so busy enjoying my meal, I forgot to take pictures.

Everyone was very attentive and pleasant. Our waiter gave us good recommendations/advice regarding menu items but you really can't go wrong at this restaurant. I had the asparagus soup with creme fraiche to start, the cod as my main and the raspberry creme brule. My partner had the seared octopus to start, the scallops as a main and the cheesecake to finish off. There was a lot of sharing (other than the cheesecake which shows how good it must have been!) and everything was outstanding. We went pretty early on a Tuesday so I can't really speak to how loud the restaurant typically is. It was quite quiet when we were there.

Food was spectacular. Service was great even with it being a full house. My guess is that the front of house manager/supervisor, male with the salt & pepper hair, was keen on making rounds to tables. That made for some nice eye candy.

Duck confit was spectacular! Cool drinks too. Espresso Martini amazing as was the Perfect Strangers cocktail!
