No cutlery offered, poor service for which 10% was added ( declined) - tried to charge for some extra gravy ( declined) - no choice of table and put us in an area where a phone constantly rang - unanswered - won’t be back

First time visitors and we enjoyed it immensely. Food was top notch and the service fabulous. Id give more than 5 stars if i could. We'll definitely be back!!

Excellent meal. Welcome warm. Service good. Food was very good, and they dealt with Sue's dietary problems very efficiently. This Pub/Restaurant has been through very poor years because of mismanagement. The new Management/Owners began end of June, and have turned it around already. We had some of the more expensive dishes (which were definitely worth it), but plenty of good cheaper options available. We can now start recommending the Pub again! (Ignore reviews before June 2024, as the current Owners were not there!)

Quality has returned to The George and the new managers have restored the pub to a great place to eat out. The only very minor criticism was no recognition given to the booking being a special occasion, but an excellent meal with a great choice of wine.

Had Sunday roast here the staff were attentive and the ambience and dining area clean and tidy Felt the portion size was on the small side and the vegetables choice could have been improved and have fed that back to the Pub

Our experience was disappointing. My new potatoes were not cooked, they were raw. They were removed and I was given roast potatoes instead. Re. the desserts. All but one were served with ice cream, which I do not eat. I asked if I could have cream instead and was refused, something I have never experienced anywhere else. The overall level of service was poor. The venue was not at all busy and yet we had to continually attract someone's attention in order to ask for something. Having finished our main course and the plates cleared away, we were not asked if we would like a dessert. We had to attract someone's attention to request the dessert menu. We ordered coffees and asked for them to be served to us after we'd finished our desserts but they weren't forthcoming, we had to chase them. I hadn't eaten at The George for some time but my previous experience had always been excellent. It was sad to see the difference.

A very good idea to have small portion specials at lunchtime. The fish and chips and club sandwich were excellent, as were the small desserts (crumble and profiteroles). We like the new menu and wish the owners and staff all the best in future. The service seemed a bit abrupt at first, but improved considerably.

Lovely pub, especially on a sunny day, but the roast dinners we had were poor. Meat and potatoes were good but the rest of the veg wasn’t cooked, at all, other than to somehow harden it. Also 2 of the 3 drinks were not what we asked for. And 2 plates arrived with a long pause until the third arrived, then we waited for the cutlery. Needs to be much better to get repeat business. The chicken and ham pie was good.
