General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream. Somehow these two halves make perfect sense, and complement each other in a seamless conversation, where neither wins the argument, but you really do have to see it! See you soon!

Truly an impeccable dining service from snoot to boot. The appetizers, mains, and desserts were delicious and well paced, and the cocktails and wine better than expected (the martini????). Everyone was so kind (Jen Agg seeing an elderly patron attempt the stairs to the upstairs washroom, and delicately offering a more accessible main floor option). It's the little things!!! Can't wait to be back with friends. Also - great playlist.

Wonderful cocktails and a truly intimidating wine list. And a great decaf Americano? I’m not sure how to process that last one.

My party of six had a lovely time. This is a bustling, lovely restaurant. Beautiful ambience, inventive food. We did mostly the raw bar. All delicious, highly recommend the kamachi, rainbow trout tartare, leeks—- everything frankly. Wine selection incredible. Service was attentive, informed and very welcoming. It is noisy so be prepared, but a wonderful experience

Came with my partner on a rare Saturday night off work. We both had a really nice time. The service from Cory was exceptional. We have a couple allergies etc so right away with the menu knowledge we felt comfortable with the recommendations and what could or couldn't be done Gluten free for us. Wine was great, Excellent wine service. Martinis were also fire We had Oysters, Pig Head Terrine, a Bump & Bubbles, Ham plate, Kampachi Crudo as our apps. All very tasty. However, the mains we had were spectacular. Partner had the halibut and i had the lobster & sweet breads and i'm still thinking of that bite. Can't wait to come back!

The food, hospitality and atmosphere are all VERY excellent. We had lunch at the bar on Sunday. The bartender, David, was a great host and gave us top notch recommendations! They’ve pulled off a really special thing: the food is comforting and familiar while being inventive and exciting; the space is cozy and comfortable while being sexy and fun. I will think about the Masala Eggs and for a long time. And the chips! Oh man, the chips!

The cocktails wer divine especially. The Eton Fizz a cross between a piña colada and a gin sour mmmmm delicious!!! Endive salad creamy and fresh , popcorn muscles and clams perfect with a cocktail, and skate wing for a main course with english Chips perfect meal for two bubbles and a shot which was a spoonful of caviar and a shot of vodka so good I’ll be back for sure!!!

The space is so stylish and warm. No small feat given the size of the place... and trust me you want it to be big, because its going to get very popualr very fast and you want to be able to get a table! I had the best martini (at noon - don't judge) I've ever had in this city - oysters were also best in show. Endive salad was a satisfying size - so hard to do with salad, but perfect here, with salt and dressing levels of total balance. My guest had a perfect - I mean perfect - omelette, also so hard to get right, but so beautifully executed and tasty. It was an excellent lunch in a gorgeous room. Service staff was totally on their game but relaxed and fun... another element beautifully balanced. On a side note; it was cool to see Jen, the owner shoulder to shoulder with staff - as is her way - smiling and proud. There's a lot to be proud of here. Hurry up and go before it get's hard to get in... and even then, you'll want to weasle in any time you can. Lot's of stools at the bar... and there's that martini. Thanks all - what a great afternoon.

Loved our time here! Nice and busy, lively and energetic space. Bar seating was super comfortable and the whole team provided great service start to finish. Nothing better than professionals who take pride in what they do and have fun doing it! It really is contagious. Every dish was seasoned appropriately, portions were perfect, every plate left us wanting one more bite in a good way, and it didn’t feel like we couldn’t order many dishes and not be able to finish them all. Raw bar selection is a fun and creative touch. Cocktails to spirits to wine, one of the best and most cohesive drink menus anywhere, everything across the beverage menus complemented all food offerings. Can’t wait till next time.
