We had a wonderful meal at the Gatehouse. Our food was spectacular, and the service (Robin) was terrific. We excited to see what these students do next!

Wait staff= great 5 grt attention to detail Quality food=great 5 Ambiance=2 sat next to kitchen door, chair banged several times, table uneven, somewhat noisy Value=2 small portions, very high priced (do not mind the tip to scholorships however) Grounds= 5 beautiful venue

My experience was amazing. It was my 18th birthday, and my server and every front of house student and manager welcomed me and even gave me a back of house tour. If I were to fully describe the experience it would be a very long journey, but to put it simply it was more then I could ever ask for. Every dish was worth the price. I got the 4 course meal and it was sublime.

Our server, Robin did an amazing job. We really enjoyed him sharing his knowledge of the CIA Culinary School experience and the Gatehouse Restaurant. The lighting level was that of a classroom, rather a fine dining establishment. The background music was exceptionally loud and did not add to a relaxing environment. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved before our next visit.

The food was generally excellent. The lamb was a bit chewy and so was the calamari but in my opinion that was due to the quality more than the preparation. The service was excellent. I will go back.

Given that it is a “student in training” environment, we always expect a few service mis-steps- that’s part of the fun. The students gave their best effort, were very engaging and the food was excellent.

Excellent meal and lovely service. This is my second time dining at the Gatehouse and the students do an exceptional job all around.

Gatehouse Restaurant is where the soon-to-graduate students of the Culinary Institute of America hone their skills before launching their careers in the hospitality business. The staff was friendly and informative, readily educating us on the nuances of the menu and life at the Culinary Institute. The menu changes frequently, so as much as I would love to recommend the Pici with Duck Ragu and the Lemon Risotto with Seafood, those dishes will likely be replaced with something equally wonderful next month. I would strongly recommend the sommelier pairing, a simple up-charge that delivers a different glass of wine with each course. It was a much easier option than finding a single bottle that worked with everything. The portions are not large, but the quality-to-cost ratio is the best in Napa Valley ... and we did not leave hungry.
