I have eaten at Gars on numerous occasions, usually lunch. This booking was evening birthday celebration 4 people in our party of 8, ordered the Emperors Feast. The quantities were tiny and did not reflect the cost of £48.00 pp which was disappointing. The Monks Feast was ok. The other dishes were acceptable. It is a shame as the food at Gars has always been good. Perhaps it's to do with the change of owners ship. Overall, it was disappointing

Gars was very busy and as a result the service was extremely slow. I felt sorry for the very sweet waitress who had to deal with our increasing irritation with how long we had to wait between each course. For example we were given heated plates which were stone cold before anything arrived. It was also so noisy at times it was impossible to have a conversation. The food itself was fine. I used to love Gars but doubt if I will go back any time soon.

we have been to Gars many times. For the first time ever we were disappointed. Firstly we noticed the lighting was very dim. We all had to use our phone torches to read the menu. Secondly the menu had been severely reduced. We felt that we were being pushed into having the set menu. the food when it came was disappointing. The portion sizes have been greatly reduced , particularly the noodles and chilli beef. The starters for 4 were underwhelming. Overall food quality was not as good as previous visits. Finally the staff mainly youngish males were not as attentive or knowledgeable as normal. Overall very disappointing. We are now considering whether to find a different Chinese restaurant to try next time
