    All of our food was amazing - butternut squash soup, crab cake, applejack seabass, king cove sole, and filet mignon - and service was top notch. I would have given it 5 stars but we were seated upstairs which really took away from the ambiance of the Gandy Dancer. I remember dining here 20 years ago and what made it unique and memorable was being seated in an old train station with old signs and active tracks nearby. Upstairs feels like a different restaurant with no windows or view the interior character.

    Kelly is an awesome waitress, knowledgeable, engaging and pleasant. She was always checking to be sure we had everything. Did an awesome job on the smoked cherry manhattans !!

    This beautiful old building made for great ambience. Our server was attentive and helpful. I have to say that the food was mediocre and overpriced. I ordered one of their most popular dishes: the sea bass with mushroom risotto. Both were overcooked; the fish was chewy and the risotto was like glue. I would go back and give them another try, but I’d order something else.

    The Gandy Dancer doesn’t disappoint. The crispy duck and the crab cakes are favorites. Out go to family celebratory dinner spot when visiting Ann Arbor.

    For several years we have celebrated birthdays at Gandy Dancer with whole steamed lobster. This year there was no lobster on the menu. When we called we were told that whole lobster were available but that we needed to call to reserve them at least 1 week prior to our reservation. We called 3 weeks prior but upon arrival on the reserved date we were told there was no record of our request and that in fact there were no whole lobster. Lobster tails were available--we reluctantly accepted this alternate. They were tough and flavorless. Accompanying rice was dry. Martha's Vineyard salad we shared (a traditional part of our annual celebration dinners) was smaller than usual and with little unique flavor. The smoked fish spread, a signature preprandial offering, was half the volume and also different. It was bland. In spite of our lackluster (but expensive) food experience, our service was excellent. That factor alone allows us to give more than a 1 star rating. Overall we were very disappointed and will not return to the Gandy Dancer.

    Our server was very attentive, and it was a busy night there so things got a bit tied up with delivery of our first drinks and bread.......but well worth the wait (especially with the amazing bread basket). We had never been to this restaurant and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone heading to Ann Arbor, MI. Be smart and make a reservation!!! It was a very busy Monday night!

    the staff is ... not spectacular, but they are nice. Everything came out in a weird order. First appetizers, then drinks. Main course was undercooked ravioli. They only have 1 appetizer that isn't fish and of course they sold out before we could order it. Asked for coffee and was completely forgotten. I don't think we will be back. It's full of crusty townies and for my money I can do better elsewhere.
