    The food and service were excellent. However, we notified them via the reservation as well as the principal server that we were celebrating my wife's birthday. The reservation form even asked specifically about the event. The result: nothing. No birthday cake, no free dessert, no card. Nothing. That was disappointing since even lesser restaurants generally offer some sort of "celebration".

    We usually have a great experience at the Gandy Dancer. However, our last visit was short of great. The bread came to us very dry and hard and we had to send it back. After our waitress took our order, we didn’t see her, not even to check on our meals, until we were finished eating and were waiting at least 10 minutes. No offer to get us additional drinks until we asked for them after we finished our meals. The salad and main course was good, service was not.

    Our was absolutely exquisite. We started off with the coconut shrimp appetizer, and the scallop appetizer. Then I had sautéed red snapper which was accompanied with coconut rice and broccolini. After which I had coffee. Our waiter was extremely attentive, but left us to enjoy our own conversation and meal.

    You can't beat the ambiance and history behind eating at the Gandy Dancer! It's really neat when a train goes by and the restaurant diners applaud and the servers ring the bells. It's not intrusive at all. It's just a unique experience. Otherwise, the restaurant is quiet. The tables are not imposingly close to each other. Though there was staff all over the place, our particular server was sort of slow. It took longer for things to get delivered to our table than I feel it should have. I think this is a uncommon experience, though. For an upscale restaurant, the prices are not bad at all. I love their extensive wine selection! Definitely recommend trying if you can.

    We have dined at Gandy Dancer several times. It always seems like a special occasion when dining there. This time WAS a special occasion, our 56th wedding anniversary. When reserving through OpenTable, you are asked if this is a special occasion and I noted it was our anniversary. I assumed from that, they must offer some free item in honor of the occasion, probably a dessert. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the hostess with "Happy Anniversary", so I knew the word had filtered down. Everything was fine, food was good, music choice was very good, and our young server was excellent. The only negative was that no mention was ever made by our server even when it came time for dessert. I hesitantly hinted that we would like something really good for dessert as it was our anniversary. STILL NO MENTION OF A FREE DESSERT. So, we were ok with it, thinking that maybe the restaurant does not do birthdays and anniversary "freebies". But when the waiter brought what we ordered, he also brought another full dessert! If he had mentioned that we were getting a complimentary anniversary dessert , we certainly would not have ordered one (desserts run from around $9.00 to $15.). He never suggested taking the one we ordered back or not charging us for it. So, though we do not often order two desserts (too pricey and too much to eat), we shared both desserts and paid for one we needn't have ordered. Other than that, the waiter was very good. One other small thing, the white table cloth had dark or dirt smudges in places and one spoon was returned due to what looked like residue or finger smudge on it.

    My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there, and we had a really good time, the drinks and food were amazing and our server David he’s an amazing guy, he made our experience special!

    I went for my birthday and the waiter was so nice and made sure I was well taken care of. Even took a picture for us at our table and at the lobby. Loved it!!!

    Food was excellent. Bit of a tight fit at our table with seven people in the booth they gave us, but it wasn’t too much of an issue. Service was great.

    Arrived on a very busy Thursday evening and valet parking was backed up for about 20 minutes. Service in bar while waiting for our table was very efficient. Out of scallops. Good dinner overall.
