Friar Tuck’s on the corner of Pine & Commercial Street in Nevada City’s Historic District has been a festive dining and lounge experience since 1973. Friar Tuck’s features a warm, unique atmosphere with friendly staff, an extensive steak, seafood and fondue menu, award winning wine list, classic cocktails and live music 7 nights a week Friar Tuck’s was created in the winter of 1973. It is one of the first wine bars in Northern California and is honored to have received the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine for the past 15 years running. Live music, seven nights a week is also a huge part of Friar Tuck’s. Friar Tuck’s is proud to be one of the oldest privately and family owned restaurants in California and now the Paige Family have become the new Proprietors to preserve this landmark tradition in the heart of Nevada City. Service was extremely slow, even for a Victorian Christmas Day. Waitress rarely checked on us and some of our food was cold when served. The steak was seasoned oddly, and not as described on the menu. Our dining companion sat there unable to eat it but also unable to order a replacement meal. Chocolate fondue had a good assortment of dippers, but chocolate was cold. We usually eat dinner there when coming up for the weekend, and we usually really enjoy it, but we were very disappointed, especially since we had friends with us.

Service was attentive and friendly. The food, as always, was wonderful. We especially loved the chocolate fondue dessert.

Rather disappointed that the restaurant has moved away from the fondue experience. Only fondue left is a cheese fondue. The meat and chocolate fondue are no longer available. While it is a decent restaurant, it no longer has any special appeal and we will look for another restaurant that has special fun food experiences.

Love this place. Great food, service, atmosphere. We always come here when we get to town. It’s a must!

Prime rib entree was a very generous portion of meat. The creamed spinach could have had more spinach in it.

I thought our server got lost after I ordered a beer, but the service picked up and improved. I asked for my 10 oz sirloing to be medium rare and it was more like medium well. I asked for a differrent veggie and of course that went wrong, but quickly and easily corrected, not billed for it--so all ended up "good". We would go again.

The food was excellent. Steak with blue cheese crust melted in your mouth. We would’ve preferred steak over sausage with the fondue, but otherwise it was very tasty. Mock tail was very good too!!

Food good. Had Rib Cap - delicious and tender. They only serve a couple a night. Music from bar was a nice addition. We were seated at a table close enough to see but far enough that it was pleasant background music. Wine selection was very good and the service was good.

Ambience was great! They have live music every night, a full bar, and service was wonderful! Unfortunately, the food was disappointing:( My husband had rib eye and it tasted like reheated leftover. I had the pork chop Marsala, it was just so so.
