Friar Tuck’s on the corner of Pine & Commercial Street in Nevada City’s Historic District has been a festive dining and lounge experience since 1973. Friar Tuck’s features a warm, unique atmosphere with friendly staff, an extensive steak, seafood and fondue menu, award winning wine list, classic cocktails and live music 7 nights a week Friar Tuck’s was created in the winter of 1973. It is one of the first wine bars in Northern California and is honored to have received the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine for the past 15 years running. Live music, seven nights a week is also a huge part of Friar Tuck’s. Friar Tuck’s is proud to be one of the oldest privately and family owned restaurants in California and now the Paige Family have become the new Proprietors to preserve this landmark tradition in the heart of Nevada City.     They were really busy but ran out of standard menu items way too soon. No filets, no potatoes mashed which came with almost every dish. I think the chef or manager wasn’t prepared properly.

    We made a reservation for Tuesday, February 4th for my wife's birthday. All seemed ok and normal until we arrived. Upon arrival, we were told that the restaurant was closed, as it had been the previous night. We could settle to eat a very limited menu in the bar, if we decided that is what we wanted to choose from. I realize that the restaurant industry is still reeling from the challenges brought about by Covid, but there is no excuse for accepting reservations for a day that operations were suspended.

    We had a Saturday reservation at 7:00 for a party of 6 , all hoping to have filet mignon as an entree . We were told they only had one left? Early in the evening sad way to start also told they were out of ranch dressing and chocolate cake? Added a 20% tip to our bill for a “large party” which I didn’t think was deserved. I would have given 12-15%? Food was tasty but not exceptional. Don’t think I would go back . Our bill was $575.

    Service was excellent and food was very well prepared. Good value for the excellent quality of the meals. Well worth a return visit.

    The food was exceptional, including the house-made mushroom ravioli’s and prime rib. Service was great, as always.

    Went here for our anniversary. It was amazing, the staff was very friendly and they even gave us a little plaque for the table saying happy anniversary. They brought us out champagne and a complimentary slice of chocolate cake. Food and drinks were amazing, and you have to get the baked brie.

    One of the best values in Nevada City. Service was prompt and excellent from beginning to end. Prices were about 10-15% higher than the menu posted on their website, but I've learned to expect that. We shared a Ceasar Salad ($16)(our server asked if we wanted it with or without anchovies) and the fondue for two ($49). It was plenty, and delicious. The wines were pricy, at $12-18/glass. I chose the lower priced Chardonnay ($14) but found myself wishing for something a bit more dry to counter the fondue cheese. The bill came to $100; we added a $25 tip. Note: We had requested a seat in a quiet area, but upon arriving we heard live music so decided to sit on that side. Not a good choice, as we couldn't see the band, but it still made conversation difficult. That is considered the "bar area", long and narrow, so there is very little dinner seating within view of the stage. Oh, well, live and learn.

    We used to frequent Friar Tucks 30 years ago. Beautiful remodel after the fire. The faire was fabulous, service and ambience a wonderful experience.

    We had a great New Years Eve dinner with my wife and 3 children. The ambience was great in the restaurant with just a faint sound of live music came in from the bar area. The owner of the restaurant greeted us at our table, and took time to have genuine conversation with our kiddos (even came by and gave a complimentary pour of wine later on!). The fondue was fun to do with the kids and it was fantastic. Our steaks were cooked to perfection with some of the best mashed potatoes you could have. Food was hot, drinks were cold, service was great, and it was a perfect way to ring in our new year!
