Did not feel rushed which was very much appreciated during the busy Sunday brunch time. Staff were attentive but not intrusive.

A classic UWS secret. You could say an uptown Cafe Luxembourg in that the diners are loyalists that keep returning for a consistently reliable wonderful experiences except, the major plus for French Roast, is their amazing extensive menu and specials offered. On noise level, have to give to nod to the Cafe. Also, its Lincoln Center proximity draws more "outsiders" that would never be seen at French Roast. Only car carrying locals.

Robert, well it's interesting to be compared to Cafe Luxemburg, I guess it's inevitable as we have been in business serving the UWS for about the same amount of year and we are both French. So I would say we are BOTH in good company.

Good breakfast. Last time I was here, a few years ago, the over-easy eggs were meh, so this time I got scrambled eggs just to be safe. Bacon was crisp, home fries cooked just right & well-seasoned. Two caveats: (1) You *definitely* need a reservation on a weekend morning. (2) It's NOISY -- all glass & tile.

French Roast is reliably good. Today, I decided to stop ordering the same meal since F. R. has good variety to choose from. Indeed, the BLT was crammed full of delicious bacon and the home fries were nicely browned, but in the end, I really like my usual better, and deviating from that--Eggs Benedict/Florentine--will always be second rate. I just like that meal terrifically.

I’ve been to French Roast many times, and I always enjoy it. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is pleasant, and the food is tasty. This time, there was a delay to getting our food to the table after it was ready. So, the poached eggs on my dish were only warmish at best. As well, the whites were runny. So cute - staff was super friendly and accommodating- went out of their way to help us and make our experience exceptional! Food and drink were delicious:)

First time dining here, came for an early brunch. Food was decent, but nothing I’d go out of my way to recommend. The main issue was that they were simply not set up for good service, and the overall experience was not pleasant. My French onion soup came out before our coffees, and when the coffee finally came, no milk or sugar, so I had to ask for some. By the time our waitress brought the milk and sugar my coffee was already cold, so I asked for a hot coffee. She asked if she could reheat my coffee, which was an americano, so obviously the only way to reheat it would be to microwave it or add hot drip coffee to it, neither of which sounded good, so I told her I just wanted a fresh one. Instead of leaving the first coffee and bringing me the fresh one later, she inexplicably took the first coffee away that I had already sipped, leaving me with no coffee. By the time the fresh coffee came we were almost finished with our entrees. Waitress apologized but then left the coffee on the check. By that point I was too over the whole experience to complain and the waitress looked stressed enough, so I didn’t want to add to it. Part of it was her fault in handling it, part of it was clearly their systems. Just not a very customer-first experience. Aside from this, it was just all around slow and bad service, and considering how long this restaurant has been open you would think they’d have better systems in place to keep things smooth when they get busy. We live in the area, and were hoping this would be a nice go-to restaurant, but this first experience left a bad taste in our mouths. Doubt we’ll come back or recommend it to friends.

Great place for lunch. The menu has something for everyone; the service was attentive and prompt, but we never felt rushed. Perfect spot to meet a friend!
