The Freelance Café & Wine Bar is of the one of the founding restaurants of Piermont’s now bountiful selection of eclectic spots to wine and dine in this historic and charming village by the Hudson River.

The Freelance menu offerings consist of Small Plates, Large Plates, and Daily Specials. The menu remains a touchstone for Modern American Cuisine as informed and inspired by the French Bistro, the Italian Trattoria, the Japanese Izakaya and ever more tastefully global inspiration. We offer a long list of favorite dishes whether that’s French Onion Soup, Thai Pasta, Braised Short Ribs or Classic Crème Brulee, as well as an inspiring selection of wines by the glass or bottle. I get the feeling that unless you are a “regular “ here , you pretty much just get mediocre service

Haven't been there in a few years but it is still terrific. Probably the best meal in Piermont.

Freelance Cafe lived up to the recommendation we received to try it. The service was excellent and the food was good. We had the French Onion soup and butter lettuce salad to start and the cod and shrimp as mains.

A bit disappointed in the food last night. Steak was overcooked, a thai pasta dish missed the mark by miles. Tuna tarter was good, salmon was plain. Having eaten here many times in the past, things felt a little worn.

We were sad to hear of Peter Kelly’s exit from Rockland County, with the closure of Restaurant X. Were are now so very happy to see that many favorites from his menu have made their way onto Freelance Cafe’s menu, and are just as well executed. Happy, too, that Freelance Cafe now takes reservations. Waiting in line, as had been the case in the past, was a disincentive.

Very disappointed with Freelance. We hadn’t been here in a few years and we were surprised by the poor quality of the food. The Caesars salad lacked flavor, our bronzino/shrimp dinner was dry, the jasmine rice lacked flavor and the green beans were not sautéed. The blueberry compote was too crusty and overcooked. Bottom line dinner was not worth the price.

I had not been to Freelance in years. I suggested we go about two weeks ago and were amazed at the quality of cuisine. The mixed drink was excellent as was the rose. We returned two weeks later. Again a superb dinner. It has become one of our regulars!

Food was wonderful especially the Tuna tatare, Panco crusted Cod and of course the Blueberry Compote. Can't wait for our next. Visit!

This place is a gem. Truly fantastic service. The food and drinks were delicious. I will definitely be returning soon and telling my friends and family.

Soft shell crabs are back in season so had them. The preparation soft shell almondine and it was delicious. The rest was f the dinner which for the 2 of us was onion soup, duck confit, excargots and cheesecake. Excellent and highly recommended. Only negative is that parking in Piermont getting tougher and tougher.
