The Formosa Cafe is a restaurant and bar founded in 1939 and located at 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard at the intersection with North Formosa Avenue, in West Hollywood, California.

The restaurant has a long history of movie star and film industry patronage due to its close proximity to studio lot across the street, which began as the United Artists lot and was later owned by Warner Bros. Generations of movie stars such as Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable have eaten meals at The Formosa. Frank Sinatra is reputed to have spent many nights at the Formosa in the 1950s, pining over Ava Gardner.

After a brief 2 year hiatus, a complete refurbishment, and a tremendous menu update The Formosa Cafe has returned to serve the Los Angeles community once again.

Fabulous staff, fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere. And then the dance party after dinner? This place HAS. IT. ALL. First time here to celebrate my 40th- will definitely be back for any excuse I can create. 💋💋

From out of town. Have seen you online and is one of THE most stunning restaurants ever. Could not wait to see it in person. But it was so dark we could not see anything. Why have so much beauty if we can’t see it. The upholstery, the wood work, everything so lovely. Beyond what this day and age has to offer but we could not enjoy it. I was so sad. The food was delicious. Jarrod our server was fantastic. But I came for the ambiance and was deprived. I felt cheated. I am desperate for beauty in this world and you have it. But couldn’t see it.

We ordered the trio of Gua Bao for apptisers, the Spicy chicken fried rice & the Orange Chicken. We always forget how big portions are here and always end up taking a box home ( next day’s lunch sorted!) Food is delicious and great value

The atmosphere and service were great, but aside from the Chow Fun (delicious) everything else was mediocre. Was especially disappointed in the Walnut shrimp as I had high expectations for it that weren’t met. Not enough sauce/flavor.

Always a pleasure to visit this LA institution! Not everything is spectacular, but these are our favorites... Sichuan wings orange chicken dandan mian (very good!) beef with broccoli fried rice You really cannot go wrong with any of the above!
