Forked on Main is a casual contemporary eatery, located in the historic Sparks building on Main Street in Orange, VA. Walk in the door and you’re instantly faced with the hostess stand and a decision – a fork in the road. Take a right and you enter a light-filled dining room that can seat couples, families or even private parties. Take a left, and you’re ensconced in the lounge, perfect for a casual mid-day coffee, a happy hour drink with co-workers or a night out on Main Street with friends.

Food continues to be good, but the service has deteriorated. The servers are competent and professional, but they are clearly stretched too thin. Over 30 min to deliver food after ordering. Really unfortunate.

My family and I live in separate towns but Orange is a solid halfway point. Adding an hour of travel to get to this dinner put an even bigger damper on our overall experience at Forked on Main. Our server was friendly enough but rarely checked on us, which was mind-blowing considering we were the only table in there aside from customers at the bar. We ordered the crab bisque, fried olives, and chicken wings as appetizers. The bisque was slightly cold and for 6 dollars we got maybe a teaspoon of crab meat. At $7, the fried olives were ok, but nothing to write home about. The 13-dollar chicken wings were undercooked so we sent those back. They kindly took it off our tab as "complimentary." I ordered the chicken skewer meal. The description leads one to believe (especially for 27 dollars) that you get a large meal. The chicken pieces were small and burnt (three skewers when I was told there were four). The bed of orzo pasta salad was over-salted and the entire meal itself simply lacked any flavor. I boxed it all up and just threw it away at home. My parents ordered the shrimp and grits at $26 and the shrimp risotto at $29. The risotto was undercooked (literally crunchy) the shrimp in the shrimp in grits was overcooked. At this point, we were just being polite. Our tab was 250 dollars, we graciously left an 18% tip. We understand it wasn't the server cooking our food but as a I mentioned they barely checked on us. If you're going to charge that much for food, and present your restaurant as "fancy" with the aprons, black outfits, and curved plates, why not just make the food good? I have over a decade of service industry experience and this is the first review I have ever left online. Maybe we came on an off day...but it was substantial enough for me to leave this. Hope this helps!

Always a favorite of ours on a Woodberry visit weekend! A warm welcome greets you when you arrive, often with a personal visit from one of the owners at some point throughout your meal. The ambiance is classy casual and the menu has a ton of variety. Whether you want a burger and wings, or tuna tartar and muscles- it’s all there and it’s all delicious!

A nice looking small town restaurant serving good food. The wine selection good, the pimento cheese spread appetizer was delicious & my shrimp & grits was only fair. The fried shrimp in the dish added no flavor & the hard kernels of corn were just added, cool & didn't work with the dish. My friend's shrimp scampi risotto dish was nice. Pass on the shrimp & grits & you'll be fine. Service was polite & inconspicuous with good timing. Oh, the tables are close together; that wasn't a problem for me, but good to know for some.

Enjoyed the food-not much crab in crab soup, but good flavor. Spinach salad was ample and tasty. Large party next to us made it somewhat difficult to talk

Excellent service- the staff is always kind and helpful making the whole experience fun. You are definitely treated like you matter and they are excited you are dining with them. The food is creative and interesting and always delicious. I can’t wait to come back!

We were so excited to try a food pairing that wasn’t wine for a change. Tonight’s experience was awful. Maybe because our expectations on a pairing menu meant someone would explain why the bourbon drink paired well with the course. Then our first course, the duck leg entree, had so little duck leg meat we had to weed through the greens to find it. The second course of the duck breast had a fatty skin that was inedible, which we mentioned to our server. It should’ve had some crispiness to it. Again we couldn’t figure out why the Manhattan complemented what we were eating. When dessert came we were offered the bourbon neat or on the rocks. I ordered on the rocks and my wife chose neat. When the drinks came my wife asked the server if she could change her mind and get it like I had (which had a nice larger ice cube). He brought it back with a few pieces of ice in it. I gave her mine and took hers. Tonight was a surprise date with my wife. In the end we were both surprised. A pretty big letdown.

We’re sorry to hear that your evening didn’t live up to your expectations. We take pride in our Bourbon Dinner experience, and it's disappointing that you didn’t feel the pairings were adequately explained. The VA Foothills owner and rep was making rounds to every table to discuss the pairings, so it's unfortunate that this interaction may have been missed or misunderstood. As for the duck, our Tasting Menu is designed to highlight a variety of flavors and textures, with a focus on quality rather than quantity. We’re not aiming for a "fancy" presentation but rather an honest showcase of great food and drink. While it’s clear our approach didn’t resonate with you this time, we will be sure to address your concerns with the consideration it deserves, and hope to see you soon.

We had not been to Forked on Main in quite a while. We will return soon. Staff was very friendly. Forked has a fun cocktail list, and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the Tuscan Bolognese and the Shrimp Scampi Risotto.
