Located inside the Westley Hotel in the heart of Downtown Calgary, Fonda Fora is an exciting new contemporary Mexican restaurant brought to you by the folks at Thank You Hospitality.

Food and Beverage Magazine 30 under 30 winner, Chef Emilio Montenegro has crafted a menu based on his upbringing in Northern Mexico and his journey in kitchens across the world. Much of our concept is based around the heirloom corn of Mexico. We import four types of corn from a collective of heirloom farms in Mexico in order to provide the best product we can. We process this corn from raw and turn it into masa for dishes all across our menu, like our Sope, Tamal, and of course, Tortillas. There is a saying in Mexico that we live by at Fonda Fora: "Sin maiz no hay pais," meaning without corn, there is no country. Maiz is the lifeblood of Mexican cuisine, and we are excited to present it to you as it should be.

The food was very good, however our server was exceptionally unhelpful. He seemed uninterested in serving us. We had to ask him for information about how the menu worked (sharing plates), ask him for water and additional drinks. He disappeared most of the evening and we were on our own. It was quite embarrassing as we were hosting a business dinner. I’d hope to hear from the manager about our experience.

The services was fantastic. Our hostess/server was really good at explaining the menu and making honest recommendations. The food was super tasty with a ton of different flavors.

Fonda fora never disappoints! Came here about a year ago for the first time on a first date with my now fiancée so we had to return! The food was fabulous as always and the staff/our waitress were awesome and even snuck us in a little earlier then expected which was super nice. 10/10 Such a great place would highly recommend to anyone looking for an outstanding meal and great vibes!

Food and atmosphere was fantastic, would definitely go back. Took a customer out for dinner during a conference (4 in our group). Dishes worked good for sharing (try the octopus tacos!). Was a Monday night so the restaurant was fairly quiet. Drink menu was also impressive and nice to see there were some tasty mocktails and 0.0 beers to choose from too.

The portions I would say were of Europeans size. I would like them to be a bit bigger. The woman that served us was sweet, engaging and very friendly. She definitely contributed to this being a great experience. We tried some local beer, I wished I remember the name. But after having five of them it's easy to forget that. I hope my tip reflected how much I enjoyed the night. I strongly recommended this place.

I only have one complaint about my time at Fonda Fora. The music was a little loud, if it was a bit quieter it would've made the experience better in my opinion. I was lucky enough to dine at Fonda Fora alone with the exception of a handful of customers and 30 minutes before happy hour ended. Service was quick and friendly. The food was good and each dish had a unique touch and taste. I liked the interior design as it offered a calm atmosphere.
